my thread is revived  :pimp:

I was watching Atletico Madrid vs. Schalke and I noticed that long balls seemed to be effective for the most part. And I was surprised. In other news, players like Simao kill a teams flow of play.

yeah, and all that does is get them boxed in corners. But I was referring to how Simao never passes at the right time.

Quick question: is it better to pressure the ball individually with the entire team pressing, or playing zone and waiting for your moments when the ball is vulnerable?

with TF10's idea of a sweeper and stop you would need one hell of a defender ( id take Ferdinand) to control the entire team and be a leader

3 guys in the back is only used when marking man-to-man and not zonal. with 3 in the back everything becomes much tighter and static and the 3 CB's must be aware of what the other player is trying to do at all times

i loved this thread

i would love to see the use of a defensive midfielder more in each league.
i think your prayers have been answered
Mikel is killing it you should've seen this show i was watching the performance he put out this season and the clips of his possession in the united game was brilliant
now i know why Chelsea had the transfer war with United for him
the next Makelele and maybe even better

i had a feeling he would have done great, maybe at a different club but he just seemed to be a good player.

@TF10: i think it would be better to apply pressure by marking out any other player the person can pass to, then that player with the ball is more likely to make a mistake becuase every player he looks at has an opponet on him

i agree zone is better
the other one leaves too much space for the opponents

yeah but then if a man gets beat, the other team automatically creates an open man and goes on a fastbreak

i think u mean other way around
zonal is when u give the players a bit of space until he gets the ball then ur on his ass, man-to-man on the other hand is where it is very tight throughout the field and if u dont know where your player is or u arent close to him you're screwed basically

ive played both and i think i farely adept at both and can defend both ways

meh really depends on how you want to play the game

oh i get it now,

i've always play zonal, like what sule said give the person with the ball assurity he can pass and when he does i try put pressure on him so he can make a mistake,

but that defence can get fucked up with one - two passes
