What's wrong with Florida tho?

florida isn't so great
That was a joke. On all American TV shoes when someones grandmother retires the whole family is like "let's send her to Florida"
Anyway I'll recomend another country which you might want to look into, Cyprus. I've never been there so I can't tell you mucha bout it but my parents are also considering going there when they have retired.

makes a bit more sense now.  florida is big for "snowbirds"

oh, and @ tj hook, if you ever have "big money," look towards the caribbean.  some/most of the islands are the ultimate in laid back without much (if any) crime

and, depending upon how comfortably you would like to live, that may not be enough, but that's none of my business

pick up a caribbean travel guide and choose your favorite, preferably one that isn't jamaica, hispaniola, or cuba.  most of them are probably going to be what anyone would look for in a retirement home

Another suggestion is go to different countries in Europe on vacation before you retire and you will have personal experience

^^ yeah Mac i been to england, i mean it was cool to visit, but i can't imagine living there.

Yeah, I forgot about Holland.  Is it nice there besides friendly people though?

Thanks for responding

yes good food, like pancakes for breakfast, lovely weather, everyone riding around on bicycles its such a nice place!

And you can always go to amsterdam  :pimp:
are you sure? i've never ever had pancakes for breakfast also never heard about people having that, also the weather sucks much. autumn and winter is very much wind and rain and the summers are not reliable as well. only the bicycle thing is true. today i read in the newspaper that we have more bikes than people in holland :P
and for the language: dutch is one of the most difficult lanuages to learn, of course not impossible i know plenty of american/canadian people that can speak dutch.
but the advances of holland are that you will support a team that plays great for the whole year except for the final rounds of the most important tournaments, you will learn what frikadellen and hagelslag are (the products dutch emigrants miss the most) and best of all: i live there  no just kidding
but i recommand to just do a vacation across europe to learn from the lifestyles. europe has very different cultures

Malta, it's so small so you can go wherever you want in a small amount of time. There are plenty of beaches because it's a small island under Italy. The people are great and the society is amazing. There is so much history you can learn and there is a small soccer league. I absolutely love going there, mostly because of my family but also because it's so laid back.

pancakes for breakfast
 mac have you ever been to the USA? IHop, Wafflehouse much?

but yeah TJ go to Spain. No question. It's really diverse, and the nightlife is great (known only from observation because I've only ever been there with my family  ). If you're into history, it's cool as well, ad depending on where you want to go, you can be n beaches, or in the mountains where the culture is really rustic. Oh and runnings of the bulls are mad fun.

If you want more info, just say so

great suggestions. I will probably take a vacation, but sometimes its hard to judge if you would wanna live there, because vacations and living are two different worlds. Spain sounds sick, yeah I am interested it, I want more info. Thanks man

Borg that sounds tight too. A small island, that would actually be perfect too as I am trying to get away from the crazy city life.

Yeah man, beaches everywhere, nice places to eat and stuff. Valletta is filled with shops if you need to get stuff, but there is always a place for privacy. :)

well what are you into? Big city with nightlife and mad soccer (like the campe nou and santiago Bernabeu in Barcelona and Madrid) or getting away from it all in the country?

Personally I like Barcelona better than Madrid as a city, because it's older and more beautiful, has the Ramblas and all the amazing cathedrals and other buildings. But Madrid has more greenery, and it has the Prado and El Escorial, if you're into art. Both cities have an amazing nightlife. I can't say I know much about the south -- I've never been there.

If you're looking for a more rustic experience, go to the mae strat. DO IT. It was amazing, and each town has its own running of the bulls in august. Each town. It's a mountain region, and the views are amazing. So are the sunsets, if you go for that. Lots mof relaxation time, and a great area to just chill and read.

If you want to know more about a specific area, ask me, or even better, one of the spanish members who might live in one of the places where I've never been.
