I think Rooneys main problem (and the england team as a wholes problem) is that he lacks technical ability compared to the top players from countries such as Netherlannds,Spain,Portugal,Germany...etc. He does work very hard however and he runs and runs and doesn't stop going occasionally this can mean his positional sense is a bit off as in occasionally he ends up in a position he has no need to be in, but most of the time this is very beneficial for Man United. He has decent shooting ability however it is quite erratic and he relies a lot on the fact that he is rather speedy for his size and just sues a combination of speed and strength really to get past people, this is in no way a bad thing i think it is just not enough to consider him one of the top players, as his techincal ability as in touches dribbling ability and overall vision are not quite good enough in my opinion yet.
