Rooney is only 22 though and was bought when he was 18. He is special because he is only 22 and one of the European Champions main players. Give the lad a break. He is a very big talent. His performances at the top level prove this. He has performed in the Champions League, Euro 2004 and The Premiership. You guys are too quick to jump on the bandwagon against him.

I agree he is not one of the greats but he is a special player. You make no sense with your arguments. You are saying Beckham is bad because he doesn't take players on and is not the all round player. If thats the case then, would you say Maradona wasn't all he was cracked up to be because he couldn't use his right foot?...No, because that is stupid because he is the greatest player that has ever lived.

People like Johnson as good as Rooney? Please don't make me laugh. Why do you think you know more than Ferguson and Capello? You can say you don't think he is great but to say such mediocre English players are on his level shows a huge gaping hole in your overall knowledge of football

I swear nothing is ever going to get through to you. You will defend every single English player. There is no point, if I was to say Vinnie Jones wasn't great you would argue against it. Here is how it is Beckham wasn't among the elites in his time, nor was Owen or Rooney right now. Don't avoid that. Stop being such a crusader for footballers because they are English.

I do not defend every English player. Ask my friends, Adi will vouch for me. I criticize the England team as a whole and individual players. I don't like Terry, I don't like Lampard, I don't like Micah Richards. I think England get popped off the pitch by teams like Spain, even Croatia. The reason we do are because a lot of our players and technically inadequate. I know this!!! But you are making claims that are false. You probably like players like Lampard and Terry and think they are our best players. They are the very reason we struggle.

He's alright I suppose. His first touch is alright, vision is good, and he works hard and he's a good playmaker. However, a major factor which I see for him as a striker, is goals. I will have to disagree with anyone who says he's the best striker, or one of the best strikers in the world, if simply he gets some assists in. He has pace and strength, but he's just lacking that eye for goal, in which a striker needs.

Another thing I would say why people get so pissed off about him, is that the English press/media severley overrate him with crap like being "the best player in the past decade" which is not true. Meh, just my thoughts on this..

I read the sports papers religiously and have never seen a writer claim him to be the best player in the past decade.

What are defining a great player as? A player that is near the top of the game presently? Or a player close to the top of the game ever? If we are talking currently then I believe Rio Ferdinand close to the perfect center half, arguably the best in the world right now.
