Best Striker in the world?....Eto'o
« on: May 12, 2008, 06:35: AM »
With Fernando Torres goal scoring exploits this season and the re-emergence of Didier Drogba towards the end of the season (he finally got over his love sickness for Mourinho), the question of, who is the worlds best striker?, starts to be bashed around a little. For me the number one is Samuel Eto'o.

If you are looking for the all round striker then this is your man. Fantastic movement, accompanied with great finishing. He can lead the line, come short, play off the shoulder. Put that together with strength and pace and decent ability in the air, I think we are talking about the best striker since Ronaldo at his peak. Eto'o still hasn't achieved the heights of him by any stretch, but he is the best since.

Despite his arrogant nature, he is main man. What's your thoughts?

He hasn't got the speed of Torres...hes got the finish...but Torres is the better striker and player overall. El Nino is the best right now.

I think Eto'o used to be the best prior to his knee injury. Now he's lost a step and still looks to be working his way back to full fitness.

At the moment, Torres is the best striker for me. The question is how well he will do this summer and next year in the Premier League. Teams will tighten up on him more and try to stop him now that they know about his ways. If he can pull off another great season, he'll be one of the top 5 players in the world.

Adi, I understand your argument. Torres has been very good this year but to claim he is the best striker in the world is far fetched. For me personally, the best striker in the world is the striker you would pick in the world cup final to start and get you a goal and a great performance. Torres is no where near that standard yet. Such names as Eto'o (my number one), Drogba, Owen, Rooney, Inzaghi, would be ahead of the spanish man. Yes, he has been good this year but he is not the real deal yet. I think he is great but can he score away from anfield? Can he score on the big occasion? Not yet. He is young and full potential but not the best in the world yet. 9 months of form is great but others have done it for a while and still do it on the big stage when needed, these are still the best strikers in the world!!!

I think he is the man for the big occasion. He's been destined for the big stage since he was named Atletico captain at the age of 19. :saywhat:

As far as his away record is concerned, he scored away to Chelsea and Inter this season. Not only that but he's also scored other big goals such as they one in the Champions League against Arsenal, and his goal against Chelsea in league play.

He's still got plenty of time to prove his doubters wrong. He's got the whole package and has already performed at the highest level. To say that he's not the best striker right now simply because he hasn't won the World Cup or Champions League is not fair in my eyes.

also, Torres played great in the 2006 world cup. He scored lots and split the defense with his speed.

Adi, Torres might be the best form wise but you cannot give him the title of Best Striker In The World off the back of one season. You are missing my point completely. Is Roque Santa Cruz in the top ten strikers in the world because he finished top four in England?? No he isn't. Think Adi, THINK!!!!
