1. He's one of the all time leading scorers in the Premiership
2. He's scored 40 goals for England and is one of the leading scorers in our international history
3. He's not a waste of money, he was free....he's on a basic wage salary, he has to play and score to get paid well.
If having someone with over 200 goals in a footballing career at the highest level is a flop, then fuck me, I'd take that career anyday. The only reasons he's been shit the past few seasons is because he's had a ridiculous amount of injuries, he's been playing in a team that nobody had the drive to succeed. But yet he's still managed to score in every 1 in 2.5 games or something. And the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson, the greatest manager ever in English football has wanted to bring him in, hardly shows that Michael Owen is a flop.
