Title: Hip hop/rap thread

Tupac is way overrated, he is not even in my top 10.

That was one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard
What's next? You'll say fifty cent has lyrical talent?

Rakim
Nas
Ice Cube
KRS1
Big Daddy Kane
Jay Z
Notorious Big
Chuck D
Scareface
Ghostface Killah
Gza

I'm not even gonna bother with Wu-Tang clan or Mobb Deep cuz they are groups.

Seriously most Pac fanboys fell in love with his character, that theatrical thug concept he was on. Him and Death row where on some dramatic shit took advantage of the whole 'West v East' bullshit used it to blow him self up, his mysterious death, dieing a legend to his fans immortalized in pictures and shit contributed to his fame. But musically he wasn't on the same level as the legends.  You might be into his music and the whole west coast sound but don't be ridiculous and call him GOAT.   :saywhat:

Aiight these aiint in any order

Tupac Shakur
Biggie Smalls
Ice Cube
Kanye West
Twista
Tech Nine
Naughty by Nature
NWA
Jay Z

Umm thats just what came to my mind while writin em, i have heaps more

Anyways i reckon Tupac is a legend, his music is great and his lyrics are also great. I personally dont like the hardcore rap he has out, but some are great "Hit em Up".

Also some of his other songs, that are more of a softer rap compared to the harder ones; Dear mama, changes, keep yah head up, heaven for a g

And some that have deep stories behind em "Brendas got a baby"

Anyways i think Tupac is great, and him and Biggie are in my Top 3 fave rap artists no doubt

Top 3 no way in hell. Thats reserved for Nas, Ice Cube and Rakim. I'm not saying Tupac is garbage, but than again he's not the lyrical genius people make him out to be. If anyone wants to compare lets do it I've done it many times and won. Ice Cube or Nas you pick.. album for album song for song!

NY State Of Mind Pt II

Some dope shyt.

Quote
I sip the Dom P, watchin Gandhi til I'm charged
Then writin in my book of rhymes, all the words pass the margin
To hold the mic I'm throbbin, mechanical movement
Understandable smooth shit that murderers move wit
The thief's theme, play me at night, they won't act right
The fiend of hip-hop has got me stuck like a crack pipe
The mind activation, react like I'm facin time like
'Pappy' Mason with pens I'm embracin
Wipe the sweat off my dome, spit the phlegm on the streets
Suede Timb's on my feets, makes my cypher, complete
Whether crusin in a six-cab, or Montero Jeep
I can't call it, the beats make me fallin asleep
I keep fallin, but never fallin six feet deep
I'm out for presidents to represent me (Say what?)
I'm out for presidents to represent me (Say what?)
I'm out for dead presidents to represent me

he is a lyrical genius and he paved the way for all the others that you are talking about. and its also about flo and delivery he has that and the popularity as well. Tupac is more globally popular than nas and ice cube. 75 million sold is no joke. ice cube was biggest with NWA, nas was big for illimatic.

Tupac didn't pave the way for Ice Cube or Nas they both had 5/5 star albums before Tupacs first 5/5 star album. Also I agree with you on one thing Tupac is the most popular rapper on the face of the earth. The guy might have been more than just a rapper he was a revolutionists and what ever others might see him as, people around the world can relate to him because he rapped it was deep straight from the heart..

What do you all think about artists using auto-tune? I got annoyed with T-Pain using it on all his songs. Kanye West and Lil Wayne have perfected it though. I really like it when they use it. They have already proven themselves with their natural voices. Now they are twisting it up and making it sound real nice.

Check out Kanye and Young Jeezy's new song "I Put On": http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=297846700

Kanye does some nice stuff with his voice there. He also has a remix to Lollipop which sounds good using auto-tune.

i don't like this hip hop kinda music that it sounds just bump bump bump, or even with no sense at all in the lyrics, like this song i heard the other day, it's called cranck that, and it's shit to hear, he repeats the same shit all over the song. i hate the actual "hip hop" or even the rap.
I like the most:
Gangstarr
Dj Premier (all songs he produces)
Jay-Z
Nas
Jedi Mind
DMX
in that order

Don't consider rap to be music. More like reading. Full Abscense of vocal skills, disability to play instruments.

Though, there's a couple of exceptions.

It depends on what you consider music. For me, it is not. Most people who like rap say that they like lyrics the most, but they should be poets then, not "musicians".

I actually hate the lyrics....but I think it has a certain beat and rythm to it that qualifies it as music. Also, who are you to define what is and isn't music?

Funny Biz Markie stories and appreciation!

DeeRock wrote:
Ok, I'm NYC at club Mars in the mid 80's and biz jumps up on stage and grabs the mic and tells Red Alert to stop deejaying. So he gets the clubs full attention and he says he got a brand new song and it's a really dope and he wants to perform it for everyone. So the whole club is sitting there wacthing him and it's all quiet and he is just standing there like he is thinking, then he said he forgot the lyrics! Fuckin' comedy.......... He drops the mic and walks off.

hogginthefogg wrote:
Not my own story, but I wish it were: I read an interview with Biz from some Canadian zine a few years back. He was buggin' on the different snack foods up there, in particular the Malt Vinegar Pringles. Of said snack, he said:

"Yo, I killed them joints! I gotta get they autograph."

I laughed for about two hours.

Phone rings one day about 6 years ago. First time I ever talked to Biz on the phone:

Me: Hello
Biz: What you got?
Me: Excuse me
Biz: What you got! Kung-fu movies man. Ca$h told me to call you about the movies.
Me: Who is this
Biz: Biz man! What movies you got.

I then start to list off every rare kung-fu movie in my collection that I can think of. After every title I mention, Biz replies "Got it!" He then says get to the rare stuff man! We start talking about all kinds of kung-fu movies for about and hour and a half. Biz then says, "Gotta go, I'll call you back."
Later that night I'm DUMB tired from work the day before and I'm sleeping early.
Wifey comes in a wakes me up, she's holding the cordless phone. She has a confused look on her face and says "someone named Biz is on the phone for you, he said that you told him to have me wake you up if he called back and you were sleeping. He sounds crazy, is everything ok?" I never told him to have her wake me up. Dude is always on some comedy like this!

Biz and I are shootin' the shit on the phone one day and his other line rings. he says hold on and clicks over. Then he comes back on and says "yo thes, you gotta be real real quiet when I click over again aight? don't say anything aight? just sit there and listen aight?" Then he clicks over again and now I'm on three way calling with him and some girl and he starts macking her up, but making little record jokes while he's doing it. I'm trying not to laugh but can't believe what I'm hearing. he's on the phone with her for like 45 minutes and convinces her to come through and "rub his back". Dude is the mack like that. She hangs up and he starts whilin' like See Thes?!! That's how you do it??!! Right there!

What a guy.

Another time we were performing at this festival in London. The line up on our stage was something to the effect of Supernat,De La, Jeru, PUTS, Ice T, Biz and a bunch of others. At the end of the show biz gets on the tables and opens his case to expose nothing but incredible ass original disco twelves, starting the set with doubles of an Apache 12 with a cover. In between going back and forth he's flossing the covers to the crowd. Ice T is standing next to me and goes "That Thits incredible." Then Biz stands (literally) on stage while the crowd sings all of the lyrics to Just a Friend. he didn't say a single line. DOPE.

One other time Biz called me while Djing a midget convention in Canada. huh?

One more Biz story:

Yo, you know I tried out for that right? I auditioned for the "beatboxer" but they picked Dougie because he was skinnier.

Me: Hello
Biz: Who dis?
Me: Yo, somebody left a message for Soulman the other day?
Biz: Oh yeah! Whassup? (or something to that effect)
Me: Who is this?
Biz: The B-I-Z the M-aza-A! What you got?
Me: What?
Biz: What you got! Old school joints man. (Dusty Kid) told me to call you about the old school tapes.

I then start to list off every old school tape in my collection that I can think of that he may not have. After every title I mention, Biz replies "Got it!" He then says get to the rare stuff man! I finally mention one that he says he "might could use". I tell him just come through next time he's in Philly. Biz then says, "A-ight, I'll call you back." Haven't heard from him since.

Another live story: He was scheduled to play the Tibetan Freedom concert at Randall's Island in 97. He was running late, and ended up going on last after BDP. Biz played a gig with a friend and I, and he had no headphones so he borrowed my friend's. He just kept playing with half of the headphones dangling over his shoulder, and never apologized! My friend was happy just to let Biz use them, so he didn't mind. Biz is a big dude, can't believe his huge cranium snapped those headphones.

One other thing that Biz likes to do is describe records that he says he's looking for and doesn't know what it is, but really he does have the record and he's just testing you / playing games with you. I have no doubts that he has this record he's describing on the clip. Dude is too funny.

Biz was djing a party at Vassar in Poughkeepsie in the cafeteria which was also where they had shows sometimes. on his rider he had "carton of milk" among other hospitality items and he was about an hour late to spin the party but he wouldn't get on until he got his carton of milk. so a student went over to the beverage station and got him two 22 oz glasses of whole milk and he drank them both down one after the other, then djed. i remember Ben BSK was shooting film of the show. i wonder if he still has a tape of that.

Okay, one of my favorite Biz stories - one that literally had me on the floor holding my gut - went something like this...
According to Biz (mind you, it's ALWAYS so much better when he tells it), he was at some big rap concert in Canada in the early 90's. Other than Q-Tip, I forget who he said was there, Gangstarr maybe?
Anyway, apparently Sade is backstage (yes, that Sade). So naturally everybody is all in awe. Biz goes right up to her and asks her if she'd be down to
do a collabo on a song. She politely declines, citing that "she doesn't do those kinds of records" or something like that (okay, maybe it wasn't so polite).
Without missing a beat, Biz then asks Sade "Do you mind if I do something?" Before "What?" can fully come out of those lovely lips of hers, Biz proceeds to take his right hand
and (quoting Biz) "palm the shit out of that big ass forehead of hers!"
Yes, apparently, Biz, for whatever reason, shook Sade's forehead with his palm for a good 4-5 seconds.
"Sorry, but I've ALWAYS wanted to do that." says Biz. "I understand." Sade answered back.
One can only imagine the looks of utter disbelief on the faces of Q-Tip & co.

Bonus Beats:
Apparently Sade's forehead took up Biz's ENTIRE palm!

a few years ago biz did a show in cologne (at the time when he started to work with groove attack) and he was djing, rapping (just a friend was done by the crowd too), doing the beatbox holding the mic on his head, using his skull for resonance and stuff. incredible!!! at one point he stopped the music, went in front of the stage and said something like "yo, u german people are number 1" and made a little hitler greeting. i couldnt believe my eyes , but it was still comedy. he then proceeded dropping Kraftwerks "mensch-maschine".

DeeRock wrote:
Yeah man, one time Biz called me up and told me he was coming to town and wanted to spend a bunch of money and asked for all these records. So I go dig them all out and show up at his hotel room and he looks at them and says: "Oh I have all these" "I just wanted to see if you did" !!!!!!!!!!! He had this funny ass little kid goofy grin on his face when he said it.

back in '96 at another university cafeteria show where the crowd was quite milquetoast Biz shows up, spins the all the b-boy classics and everybody is like "eeeehh!".
then he shifts gear and screams something to the effect of "aww man I'm gonna take you back to SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS" and sped through scooby doo, gilligan's island, theme from dallas, greatest american hero. the crowd went bananas.
BONUS BEAT: he djed the entire set without headphones

residentgiant wrote:
My boss was a recording engineer back in the 80's.. I was picking his brain one day, and found out he engineered on a lot of Biz's sessions. Biz would give him his BIZ ring to wear while he was working the board. He'd always ask Biz if he wanted to do a second take, and he'd be like "This is Hiphop, Freddy! Ain't no second takes in hiphop."

ThesOne wrote:
Biz told me another story that if I remember correctly involved him travelling, alone (and still rather unknown), to another part of NY to battle Buffy at a beatbox competition that was rigged in Buff's favor. Well, as biz recounts, he started doing all his funky breakbeat beatboxes and the crowd straight fronted on him. Biz disses Buff and "his I'm hungry shit" and the crowd or at least one of the crews gets furious and chases him out of the club and "across some tracks". I could just imagine a crowd chasing a young unknown biz down the street.

Big Chan wrote:
I think it was 2000, the Spit Kicker Tour rolled through Seattle. De La Soul, Common, Kweli & Hi-Tek. Biz is DJing to start off the show and spins between the groups performances. Biz calls me at work at 1:00PM and says he just left the airport and tells me to meet him at his hotel. I tell my manager my dentist just called and could get me in last minute for a problem with one of my teeth. I'm out! LOL. Supreme and I go meet Biz at the hotel. Biz has his crates with him in the hotel room so we know it's about to be on. Biz starts to show us all kinds of crazy 12" joints we've never seen. The Apache 12" with the cover and all that kind of shit. He would slowly pull the record out of the flight case keeping the cover blocked with his hand, he would then pause and say "I know ya'll ain't got this one!" Then he would show us the record and say "Ha!" Funniest record? You know those plastic 45 adapters that make a 45 the size of a 12" so you can cut with it? This foll had an og Manzel Midnight theme 45 GLUED on top of a random 12" record so he could cut with it! This goes on for quite a while, then he starts playing us CDRs full of old school songs we've never heard of. He had Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh joints that were unbelievable. Then Biz finally says "What imma wear to the show?" He opens up a big duffel bag and the whole bag is stuffed full of brand new clothes all with the tags still on. He pops the tags on some polo gear and says "You know how I do, gotta stay fresh!"
The show was dope. Biz was playing TV show theme songs and singing along and everything. After the show a bunch of us are sitting in a 15 passenger van in front of the venue about to go back to the hotel. Biz is sitting in the seat right next to the big sliding door on the side of the van. The door is open while we are waiting for someone else to come get in the van. Some kid sees Biz and goes nuts. The kid starts yelling "It's Biz. Biz Markie! Def Squad, Juice Crew, The diabolical!" This whole time Biz is just looking at the kid with a tired look on his face. Finally after the kid is done with all his shout outs and praise, Biz looks right at him and says "Close the door!"

Philly Phil wrote:
I almost forgot- that last time I spoke to Biz on the phone, while running down a list of exclusive unreleased joints he has on tape, he tells me he has a version of "The Symphony" featuring him, Kane, KRS-One and Chuck D! Dude is TOO FUNNY.

wrote:
One time when Biz and Kane were in town way back in the late 80's, I went up to the hotel to meet with them and I don't know what the situation was but when I rolled up Cool V was getting his ass kicked by a few of our local BGD members. Then out of no where comes Biz with a 2x4 and in one solid fluid motion whops the three guys in the head and layed them out! Then he told me a story about some guys in VA cahsing him after a gig and shooting at him and he ended up getting away. Then he said the next day he was going through the crate he had next to him in the car and there was a bullet that traveled half way through the records and then stopped! He said his records saved his life.

Big Chan wrote:
So one day Biz and I are talkin on the phone and I tell him I really like the Grand Daddy I.U. LP "Smooth Assassin." Biz starts telling me all kinds of stories about making the album. My favorite was when he said "You know Mary J. Blige was singin' on sugar free right?" "I used to go pick her up in the projects in New Jersey, I'm the one that got her the deal with MCA."

vajdaij wrote:
My only Biz experience was catching the Spitkickers tour in Cincinnati. Biz deejayed to open it, and he was doing the belly-crossfade, and not really on any sort of beat. Just slam back and forth. Then, when he finally goes on, and the crowd hears 'just a friend' and we all start singing it, he just bends over and screams like a wild man from the bottom of his lungs. No words, just a long sustained scream. Then he beatboxed for 45 seconds and left the stage. It was crazy and I learned a lot about hiphop from Biz that night. Thanks Biz!

You mean second verse right, hes imitating Big. As for Bigs flow nah hes not close. The best imitation I had seen was from the Roots one of those guys done a whole Wu Tang song imitating to the smallest detail pretty much every member. I'll see if I can find it.

feature=related

found it tho the Quality sux.

The part where he does ODB and Ghostface straight after is insane.
i dont rate the game that much.
Compared to some of these commercial artist who came out after 2000-present I rate him pretty highly. He keeps it pretty old school in this era of pop beats and corny hooks.

One of the best choruses of the year I think:

The Game got some good lines on this as well.

------------------------------------

[Verse 1: The Game]

Take me away from the hood like a state penitentiary
Take me away from the hood in the casket or a Bentley
Take me away
Like I overdosed on cocaine
Or take me away like a bullet from Kurt Cobain

Suicide (Suicide..suicide..)
I'm from a Windy City, like "Do or Die"
From a block close to where Biggie was crucified
That was Brooklyn's Jesus
Shot for no f**kin' reason
And you wonder why Kanye wears Jesus pieces? (My Life x3)
'Cause that's Jesus people

And The Game, he's the equal
Hated on so much, "The Passion of Christ" need a sequel
Yeah, like Roc-a-fella needed Sigel
Like I needed my father, but he needed a needle
(My Life x3)
I need some meditation, so I can leave my people
They askin' “Why?" Why did John Lennon leave The Beatles?
And why every hood nigga feed off evil?
Answer my question before this bullet leave this Desert Eagle

[Verse 2: The Game]

We are not the same, I am a Martian
So approach my Phantom doors with caution (caution...caution)
You see them 24's spinnin'? I earned them
And I ain't no preacher, but here's my Erick Sermon
So eat this black music, and tell me how it taste, now?
And f**k Jesse Jackson cause it ain't about race, now
Sometimes I think about my life with my face down
Then I see my sons and put on that Kanye smile (My Life x3)
Damn, I know his momma's proud
And since you helped me sell my dream, we can share my momma now

And like MJB, "No More Drama" now
Livin’ the +good life+, me and Common on common ground
I spit crack and niggas could drive it outta town
Gotta Chris Paul mind state, I'm never outta bounds
My life used to be empty like a glock without a round
Now my life full, like a chopper with a thousand rounds

Flashin lights is dope man. I don't know why you dislike it. You can't expect every rapper to rap about the hood. Kanye is not hood so why should he. I appreciate his different take on rap music. I'd rather have him than these fake ganster rapers. By the way, how come you relate to the hood? Not trying to be rude, but I didn't know you were from the hood or had any connections with it. Some rappers do it right and some do it wrong. I think Kanye's auto-tune voice is very nice. I like the standard voice but I got the ears for the auto-tune as well.

And don't hate so much on Wayne... he makes almost a new song every day and 8/10 are quality. That says a lot about his talent. He's the most in demand rapper out there. I think he's outdoing Tupac and the amount of songs he made.

I just don't like that bullshit RNB type, watered down rap its wack. It doesn't have to be straight gangster rap I'm not even a fan of hardcore rap. But the thing is I'm not a fan of the T.Is, Lil Waynes, Kanyes and your 50s. The only fresh artists I listen to are Ross, Game and Lupe from time to time. There no use going to go into how anyone can relate to the hood etc its just gonna sound corny.

I like Kanye his first 2 albums where tight, I also like his recent song Home coming, but then hes got songs like flashing lights that club stuff really annoys me. Then he got songs like Big Brother where he sounds like the biggest Hov stan on earth, I'm just saying hes begining to fall off a little.

What true hip hop? Get over it... the closest you'll get to your old 90s hip hop is Common, Lupe, The Roots, Kweli, and a few others.

Hip hop is changing. Stop hating on it. Soulja Boy sucks and I know that, but there's still lots of good music out there.

Thanks. People nowadays take credit away from rappers as soon as they make it big. Look at Lupe. He was loved by "true hip hop fans" before his last album. He makes it big, and now people are giving him shit.

Look at 50 in this video trying to mock Kanye's hot new track. It's #1 on iTunes and it's only been on there for 1 day. Pathetic 50 makes fun of Kanye and then plays one of his old ass tracks. How does he have the nerve to hate on Kanye when Kanye is dropping single after single? 50 is still living off his 2004 CD. Sorry ass bitch.

"Hand gun automatic, Shot gun pump action, me with your wife thats automatic hump action"

Anyway 'bout LW, because he makes a tune a day says nothing, doesn't mean they're any good. 8/10 nah man not imo. Anyway way Drake ghostwrites for him, so any dopeish bar will prob be from Drake.

And bout the platinum bit, well a fave quote of mine explains that:

Cuz if you go platinum, it's got nothing to do with luck
It just means that a million people are stupid as fuck" Immortal Technique

And bout the platinum bit, well a fave quote of mine explains that:
"So if your message ain't shit, fuck the records you sold
Cuz if you go platinum, it's got nothing to do with luck
It just means that a million people are stupid as fuck" Immortal Technique

immortal technique is what hip hop needs.

tha carter 1-3, the suffix's, the drought; lil wayne made rediculous raps on all of these albums. and i don't like lil wayne because of all of the new stuff he is doing. i date back to callin' me killer, get off tha corner, and the block is hot. please, don't talk like the game and ross are great because they keep it old school; they are fine, but they can stay in the old school while lil wayne takes over the new school. he is the hottest rapper out right now, and he can actually rap, not to mention he shat all over al sharpton on tha carter 3.

he wasn't kidding when he said that after the saints and hornets, all new orleans has left is him. you'd be surprised how lil wayne is percieved around here; he's on presidential status, and i don't think many other rappers represent thier city as hard and well as lil wayne does.

and about kanye; please, kanye is one of the best performers in the game. he's very very creative; he started out giving hova tracks like Hola Hovito, etc. and just gradually evolved into one of the greats in the game right now. i always look forward to listening and seeing kanye's newest shit; his tracks appeal to various people. call it what you want (pop rap or what have you), but mr. west makes good hip hop and fantastic beats, hands down.

bitch, don't hate on lil wayne. i like autotune :hello:

i wasnt exactly targeting him with he can do amazing verses, then other times he just sucks

he's also human. and, a for the most part, is probably on purple. he's in his own world, really.

I most like celph titled, his lyrics are so funny, hes at the end on most of the songs, heres just a few quotes off the top of my head

"Army of the pharoes never make love songs, we finger fucking bitches with freddy cruger gloves on"

"Hand gun automatic, Shot gun pump action, me with your wife thats automatic hump action"
Word lol. CT is sick! Always makes me laugh, and I expect sumin' when he on a track.

"Cut your arms off, you're the best rapper hands down"

"Well if 50 got shot nine times and ain't die,
I'ma shoot your ass fifty times with 99 nines,
Throw knives, daggers and darts, ya'll just faggots at heart,
You can try to run home boy I throw javelins far"

"shoot your mother at your funeral She fell in the casket,
how convenient is that shit?"

immortal technique is what hip hop needs.

Yup, the truth needs to be heard!

@ Lil Wayne topic: The drought 3 was hot his mixtape game is on point, but I wasn't feelin the carter III. When that fool was on Nelly's album (country grammar) he spat hot-spittable.  He sounded straight, and he did his thang on My life with the game, but other than that, that Lollipop garbage and this got money shit,  that can all go. I'm tired of Lil Wayne personally, he aint as hot as let's say Cassidy

Immortal Technique: he straight but need to get down gritty again,  his new shit starting to sound sloppy, he aint concentrating on his lines and rap is down as it is. He was straight in concert though. I like to keep my music and politics seperate, maybe thats dudes only outlet.

I'm not shitting on him; true, he does sound like a "broken record" which is why i think he went overboard on his new shit. I wouldn't say his flow is questionable in a song like "revolutionary" or "harlem streets"; those songs have quality raps.

yeah, i was going to put "weak as fuck," but there are songs where he has sounded very, very good.  he sounds like he's forcing it sometimes

he definitely has his niche, and it's not as if there are not many others that do as well.  it just gets pretty boring after a while

And I agree with ELITE, a big part of Kanye is his performance. He's got the best show out of any rapper. I've been to the Glow in the Dark tour and what he did is unbelievable. He's on another level compared to other rappers. For all I care, he can be as cocky as he wants because he's just that good.

I never said Game and Ross are great, I said they are the artists that I listen to more compared to Kanye, T.I, 50 and Wayne. Your just bigging the dude up because hes from your City and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm not telling you what you should be listening to. Personally I think some of the musik is trash.

Its funny how you jump the gun and say this person is the best in the game, while Nas, Ghost, Joe budden etc still strong. Bun B-II Trill,  Nas-Untitled, Young Jeezy-The Recession, Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple all hot albums that dropped this year, much better then Carter III if you ask me.

Wayne is talented but hes always been mediocre.

Well, personally, if you ask me, what I listen to is better than what you listen too (this is basically what you are saying). You can listen to what you want, obviously; i'm not here to tell you your music is trash. If you think it's trash that's your problem, don't share it with me.

There is lots of underground talent with nice lyrics but they don't know how to make a single. It's not easy finding a way to appeal to a larger audience.

lol you think i'm taking this seriously? i've been laughing at you this whole time. homie, you talk about mediocrity, but then young jeezy is mentioned!? i was seriously perplexed. i mean, you do your thing and listen to jeezy, that's cool. the only thing i said was that if you think music is trash, keep it to your self. if you want to talk music, let's talk, but don't bash anyone. don't even bash 50. different people like different music for different reasons.

you think i'm on groupie status? that's fine, because you're on god status; whatever you say is trash must be the worst rap ever

I didn't mention Jeezy as an artist, I mentioned his latest album Recession its pretty tight already an album of the year contender now I was comparing that with another contender Carter III.

TBH the only reason I brother bashing these artists is because ppl will defend them.  If I was to bash 50 everyone would agree, I just did to stir some pot. Its a pretty pointless arguments because like u said at the end of the day everyone prefers something different.

Relax just having a laugh buddy.

First of all, 50 doesn't make singles any more. He had one on his entire last album. That's nothing impressive.

Second of all, I'm not talking about people who JUST make singles. There are some who constantly make shit music to appeal to young kids who like the beat and want a fancy dance to go along with it.

I am talking about the rappers who are fairly good lyrically, are talented, and are still able to make a single. These are the rappers who actually bring quality music to light. Lupe Fiasco is one of them. If you are underground your whole career, it just means you think you are too good to let your music out or you most likely just can't make a single.

Oh I think they do, they just stay real.
And I won't give some artists cred b/c  some of the singles nowadays are just the same recycled beats.

Didn't know he was coming wit a new album, I been sleeping.
Not really feeling that song, I'm liking common not the hook tho.

Finding Forever was nice but not too, like it has some I really like: the game, the people, play your cards right, forever begins. It also had good singles too: i want you, drivin' me wild. But some of the rest weren't too good really imo.

It sounds like it's gonna be more of a mainstream album from com too, will have to wait and see what its like but idk if i'll buy this one though may get it by other means lol.

Nah hes consistent that what I like about him. Its constructive criticism I feel lately he lacks the aggression that made him the best from the Midwest. Its got nothing to do with being mainstream.

He reminds me of Prodigy he was a force to be reckoned with in the 90s now his flow is like a mummy, these guys are loosing it, they need to step up a little.  :nopity:

Your taking this whole internet persona too far calm the fuck down. You where the kid only a few years ago who was posting pictures of other greasy looking dudes and saying it was you remember that. You've always had low self esteem and a huge identity problem, I mean what kind of homo goes on the internet looks for pictures of guys who he thinks are good looking and posts them? what a fag. Rayan Beltrano was a cool cat, you on the other hand need to get yourself together. I seen pictures of you looking like the nerd from Even Stevens. Now you meant to tell me you got paper game? lmao. Kanye's beats and lyrics just give a fresh feel to music; i can't really say i'll be able to expect what will be on one of his tracks. that's the type of music that I like, and that's why i think Carter 3 was so great; it's all about the creativity in beats and lyrics. It's not the same old same old to me.

To my ears, so and so can be ahead of the rest. Remember, it's my (or Adi's, or whoevers) opinion; you don't have to agree with it; if you agree you can say "hey, i feel the same way, i really like blah blah blah"; and if you don't agree with it, you don't have to try to convince people that thier music sucks. I don't see the logic in doing that, there is no point to it at all.

Have your oppinion but don't cry when someone disagrees with it.

You see this is whats wrong with so called 'heads' these days, they want to tell you Kanye, Jay-Z and Wayne are the best e/g. No one can disagree with this, otherwise they are hating.

Its a big part of hiphop thats why they have polls and discussion everywhere, Its like when Vibe magazine tells me Eminem followed by Jay-z and Wayne was voted the greatest Mcz of all time or some type of shyt like that, lmao whose voting in these polls. If I was hating on 50 no one would say anything, its all band wagon type shit.

Shit needs to go back to the days where rappers call out other rappers because they thought they where wack.

Hes not the best: thats my opinion.

Dudes got a shit catalog compared to some cats still in the game.

Are you a rapper?

I think Kanye West is more original and creative than most rappers right now. But at the same time I could say that Cannibal Ox are the most creative rappers i've ever heard, and I wouldn't be shy to try and back that up.

Trust me, it's no big deal that you don't feel Kanye. I don't see why I would have a problem with that.

"back in the day, back in the day"; that's the beauty of it, that rappers like West can make a whole new style instead of rapping about the same old hood shit. I don't care if you hate Kanye West, but don't come telling me that so and so is better.

Is it bandwagon? No, because I know people that are still feelin' 50. I know people that hate Cannibal Ox. Bandwagon? I call it taste, opinion, and preference.

I don't see why this always boils down to "dick riding"

Your a funny cunt where did I imply I was a rapper.

What I meant by that was like when 50 made fun of Kanye recently for example people are like look at him hating on Kanye, its not necessarily hating, its entertaining.

Creativity is good but its another thing having skills on the mic (being able to flow, tear apart a beat, ferocious delivery and the lyrics to back it up). Most fans are impressed by shiny suits and dances, thats considered creativity as well.

Its obviously all about taste, but if some one came up to you comparing soulja boy and biggie you would tell them to go home true.

Love the way you just assume I just want to hear the same grimy old hood shit over and over.

Its alright man, usually have many arguments with other listeners and compare artists. But here feelings get hurt.

50 is shit. He really is. What has he released that was any good since "I Got Money?" Nothing man. I don't like him going around thinking he's still the shit. I'm not "hating" on him... it's just the truth. If he's gonna go around dissing one of the most successful rappers right now, he better have something really good backing him up. He doesn't have anything. He's still living off his past hits.

If I wanted to listen to someone tear apart a beat or ferociously delivery lyrics, i'd just listen to The Cold Vein. I wouldn't listen to Kanye West, in fact, he's far from being able to do that. But he brings a different element to the game of rap. He doesn't have the cold components that a true MC does; I wouldn't label or even consider him a true MC. He's just a very creative rapper/entertainer, and I happen to enjoy the music that he makes.

Hurt feelings? It seems as if anytime Lil Wayne or Kanye is mentioned, you always have to negatively comment; i think it's you with hurt feelings, you bastard! :boxing:

I really hate 50 with a passion, more so after I went to see his show. Looked more like a corporate made puppet than a real MC/rapper/artist or whatever you wanna call him.

And him dissing Kanye, the way I see it it says more about 50's music than it does about Kanyes.

Actually yes. I thought the song was pretty damn good. The beat was an instant classic and the chorus was quite good too. Maybe some other rappers could've done more lyrically, but that can be said for most artists.

I don't know if I posted that before. It's quite good. They were shooting the video for it yesterday. The opening is kinda lame but Kanye does his thing. Yeah, more Kanye sorry.

And here's a track of Lupe Fiasco. It came out a few months ago but hasn't really been big. It's something different from Lupe teaming up with Bun B but he does damn good on his verse.

Well fair enuff if you like it, but me, I don't want to know how much money this guy has got and also the tune sounded like its was coming from a mobile phone, sounded sooo low quality.  Meh the beat was alrite tho, I'll give you that.

And I quite like that go hard kanye song, I got used to it by listenin to Sways version/remix/freestyle on his music.

Check it out on his myspace, its fire imo:  http://www.myspace.com/swaydasafo  The go hard one obv.

And this song with Akon, didn't like it first but do now, very mainstream soundin. I can see a vid being done for it too.

R-Kelly is a boss when it comes to making tracks with big artists, street dreams with Nas, Best of both worlds collabos with Jay and make it rain with Gayne just to mention a few.

Can't wait for this: Official Notorious Movie Trailer...

http://videos.onsmash.com/v/lgFn8cQuFis9GiPx

Another Kanye song leaked of his upcoming album. It's called Robocop. Kanye claims he didn't leak it and that it's not even the final version. It should give you a good idea of the song though:

I hope he has some songs in which he raps on the CD. I don't want a full album of this. It's good for a few songs but not all. I have a feeling the whole album will be like this though, then he'll release another one with more rapping in the summer.

That movie looks weak, first of Gravy doesn't even look like biggie. They should have used the little kid from the Notorious and Bob Marley video for the childhood parts, and Guerilla Black or Sean Kingston for the older versions.

I wonder if it will involve the 2pac controversy or Nas and Wu-tang.

Secondly Puffy trying to make it seem as if Biggie was a gangster, even he said he never really was a gangster, they are exaggerating just for entertainment.

It's T-Pain's new song called "Karaoke." There's a funny introduction to the video, and you get to hear T-Pain rap without the auto-tune. It's actually not half as bad as I thought it would be. T-Pain and Kanye poke fun at each other in the beginning... quite good.

DJ Khaled continues to be the most annoying man in hip hop.

here is my list and if u dont know em check em out they are deff fire and some are underrated, they are not in order.

Styles P (the ghost) deff fire from nyc raps about his real life, his flow is like non other smooth and calm

Hell Rell- he is fire as well

J.R Writer- this guy lyricly he is one of the top 3 in the game right now, listining to him and ur goin to have to rewind the track to absorb what he just sayed

Eminem- any em is good old new his shit crazy and hes comming back, he deff the best lyrically, ems tracks u gota rewind to absorb

Big L- hes now died but his stuff back in the day was outa this world RIP

Lil Wayne- old lil wayne is the shit...he went from good to amazing then he fell off when the C3 came out that stuff one there was deff not the most lyricall which is why its weak, lolipop that track was mad old the chores was from about 4 yrs ago wayne made... but he is slowly getting back up

Ludacris- lyrically he is so so, but his flow is nice

Gucci mane- he is from the south hes got the beats, not lyrically but hes nice another nice check him deff should love him... check out the song "im a star" deff fire

Cassidy- hes from phili and he is deff in the same leauge with Eminem and JR writer.. if they all where to battle it would be crazy

50cent- 50 cent now sucks old 50 was better like the first get rich or die tryin...then he fell off when he started candy shop songs and all the other gay stuff he has

Some nice groups to check out are DBLOCK (used to be The L.O.X)
consist of Styles P, Sheek Louch and Jadakiss which i did not mention but they are still fire and are the only rap group to still be together and they still are eating up the game

But my number 1 artist id say is Styles P, hes stuff calms me down, stress free so that i can go and start to freestyle with no stress on my mind

Here is something a bit older... 300 bars by The Game. It's him dissing G-Unit for 15 minutes after they got into it a few years ago. The ending is probably the best part. Great flow and nice beat. You really gotta listen to this song. He really kills 50 and the rest of G-Unit.

G-unit is finished not because of this track but rap wise, Buck is out Game been out for a couple of years now. Yayo is trash, 50 lost 8 million fans between the Massacar and Curtis. Banks is good but hes lazy hes only good for a mixtape now.  Terminate on sight failed. He got too many bummy rappers around him and too many enemies in the game. I would say they are pretty much gone.

And don't worry about my music horizon... I got plenty of artists I listen to. Right now, I'm just in the mood of listening to Kanye. How many times did you listen to the song? I don't know how you can think it's shit. It's quite original and the sound is dope. The chorus doesn't sound like it's in auto-tune, and the verses have a nice twist of auto-tune and something else.

Christ, College Dropout Kanye was amazing...it was the originality that made it amazing; the Bernie Mac skits! It's what makes Kanye great; right now, he's going for more originality and switching up his style. You either like it, or you don't. Why is it an argument? Not everyone likes the same music...

I've listened to it twice, I think it's pretty boring, ok beat/tune but kanye talking/singing the same words over, seems repetitive, YJ sounds the same each time and wasn't anything any good really. Anything but amazing.

Late Registrations and College Dropout were better but it doesn't mean this one won't be pretty good. I'm just being open to a different style of music. Kanye doesn't do the same shit over and over like most other rappers. If you want College Dropout, then take out your College Dropout CD and listen to it again. He has already done that and mastered it, and now he's moving on to something else. It's about the challenge and innovation... that's true talent.

Kanye doesn't do the same shit over and over like most other rappers. If you want College Dropout, then take out your College Dropout CD and listen to it again. He has already done that and mastered it, and now he's moving on to something else. It's about the challenge and innovation... that's true talent.

I do, i listened to it all last week infact.  The thing i love about it is that it is unique, he had his own sound and thats what i loved about kanye. Quality beats and lyrics with alot of meaning. Now he just reminds me of everyone else with the autotune and collaborations. Its not my thing, but fair enough its your taste and thats cool. As far as calling it a true talent, i wouldnt say that.

I forgot to post this before when i mentioned it.

That amazing song is shit.
I'm not even gonna d/l this album.

How many times did you listen to the song? I don't know how you can think it's shit. It's quite original and the sound is dope. The chorus doesn't sound like it's in auto-tune, and the verses have a nice twist of auto-tune and something else.

If all you want is your typical ganster shit, then you won't like this obviously...

When I listen to lets say outkast thats original the way they usually change styles and sounds on most of their albums, but here all I see is another rapper jumping on the auto tune band wagon its played out. Yea I heard the song twice I still think its boring, hes just sining.

Why did I love Diamonds are forever (most probably dudes best song) and think this is boring? It can't be that I hate the man.

This is the realist song i have listened to in a LONG time, it really made me think. The lyrics and the way sway tells the story is beautiful and i feel alot of people can relate to this track. I never knew sway could do a track like this, he has really impressed me with this.

Enjoy.

Damn MC Breed is dead.

Quote
Midwest rapper MC Breed, born Eric Breed, was found dead today (Nov. 22) after suffering kidney failure. He was 36.

Breed's manager Darryl Morris confirmed that the rapper was found dead at a friend's home in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the Detroit News is reporting.

In September, Breed collapsed on a basketball court. He was taken to the hospital and put on life support due to kidney failure. He was taken off life support days later, according to SOHH.com.

Helping the Mid-West rise to popularity within hip-hop, the Michigan-bred emcee is known for gaining notice as an independent artist with a number of early 1990's albums, including MC Breed & DFC, 20 Below, The New Breed and Funkafied. Breed's career spans 20-years and 13 albums.

Breed also famously collaborated with various West Coast rap stars including Too Short, Warren G and the late Tupac Shakur.

Thats sad man, dude was 36, guess his time was up.

Ain't No Future In Yo' Frontin

I remember this song of his was our anthem was a while in high school me and boys used to bump and reference this song all the time, it became a catch phrase. Paying homage to the legend.

This is what I love about Lupe... even though he's big he's still performing at some small events. Not sure what this is but it's pretty damn dope:

eurl=http://www.lupefiascoblog.com/&feature=player_embedded

Also, any of you buy the Kanye CD? I heard just about every song before the CD came out, but the CD is still quality. Welcome to Heartbreak is nice as well as Robocop and Street Lights. Props to Kanye for doing something different. Hopefully he's inspire other rappers to venture into the unknown a bit. Like he said at the American Music Awards:

"I would like to thank everybody who accepted me trying to break new boundaries in music," he said. "I wake up in the morning just thinking about which stereotypes I want to break. And, you know, we pushed the envelope with the last album, with 'Stronger,' with records they thought wouldn't play on urban radio, and it's our responsibility as musicians to keep pushing each other and keep competing with each other. "It's a really great competition. I see artists like Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Chris Martin all in the same room, and we're going to push this music to the point where it was like in the '60s, in the '70s, where you talk about Led Zeppelin and Hendrix and the Beatles. We will be the new Beatles, the new Hendrix. They say in every other industry, you're supposed to do better than the past. Like, computers should get smaller and faster. But whenever you say, 'I want to be Elvis,' they say, 'What's wrong with you?' Well I want to be Elvis."

Best acceptance speech I've heard in a long time. And please don't reply with all this "Kanye dick-riding shit." Focus on the post...

And all I could show him were pictures of my cribs.

Lmao I heard about that incident, nah bro I wish I threw that coin. That was in Sydney. Not hating or anything, all jokes aside Kanye doesn't get much love in Australia, don't know why hes even here. Its kind of becoming cool to hate Kanye down here for some reason.

You get dudes like this at the shows, who are only there to see the supporting act lol no wonder the coin was thrown. There was an incident in Melbourne roughly about 2 months ago, when the Outlawz came here and they where asked who they thought was 2pacs successor, and one of them answered Kanye. They nearly got booed off stage, shit got heated. On a side note 2 of them (owtlawz) appeared on of my buddies rap video.

i don't think there's been much mention of Jadakiss. Dude's great lyrically, and always has fly beats. He's got countless classics, but the album Kiss of Death was my favorite of his...

his verse with Gangstarr (who are also great) in right where you stand never fails..if you've never heard this song, i urge you to listen to it

Everyone is posting old ass songs. I want to hear some new stuff that's not on the radio yet, or that will never be on the radio. Post some new stuff, and not songs that we've already heard 1000s of times.

not really lol

Course there is, its jus finding it.

Mr. J. Medeiros - Of gods and girls

"I Wish Nas could make an album with the original team"

Quote
Nas fans aren't the only ones who wish the Queens rapper would reconnect with all the producers who helped put together his classic debut album Illmatic.

In a recent interview with Goods Magazine, DJ Premier revealed that he would like to link up with Nas and the other producers who worked on Illmatic for a new album.

"I wish Nas would do an album again with just the original team,' said Primo."Me, Q-Tip, Large Professor, Pete Rock and L.E.S. We all went in like we knew we had to."

"I remember Tip bringing me 'One Love' and I was like 'Damn, I had to go and fix mine'.  I had to change my 'Represent' beat just to compete with them," Primo reminisced.  "Pete played me 'The World Is Yours' before the beat was done and I was like 'Yo, I gotta make another banger' and that’s when I did 'New York State Of Mind'.

"Large Pro was really the originator of Nas' style musically because he took a chance on him, so Large Pro is really the important factor of Nas' career," Primo continued.  "So I don’t know how you don't go back to Large.  If Nas would g et to do one album with all of us again it would be over successful because we all gonna come with it."

Premier's production has been absent from Nas' and Jay-Z's projects in the past years.  Primo claims he has sent beats to both rappers but they never make the final product.  Despite being turned down, Primo has no ill feelings towards them.

"I'm not bitter, my main thing is just let me know you're not gonna use it. That gets me a little bothered because if you know me just say 'It ain't it Preem'.  I'm cool," he explained.  "I pee standing up, I’m all man so I’m not gonna get sensitive about that. Those are my dudes".

I wish it happens, I won't be expecting another Illmatic but shit would be epic. Especially in this day in age we need something with an old skool blend. Kids need to hear something like this.

I know your taste u into that alternative rap kinda like De la soul & Tribe called quest. Although its nice and funky. The daisy rap era is not an area I touch much.

The only cuzen of Ice Cube I've ever heard off was the one that beat him up because he dissed east south central.

I'm pretty sure that the Gorillaz are Deltron 3030 under a pseudonym, but I'm not entirely sure.

Either way, Del is a genius.

wait, then...what is their role in the collabs, then? Because Del seemed pretty prevalent in them

I glean what I can from pidgin english youtube comments and the fact that I'm too lazy to search it on wikipedia

I dont know if u mean relapse, or you mean relapse 2(the upcoming proyect eich I dont know if its downloadable, or able on stores yet)

but if u mean relapse, I think its a good album... in fact I love eminem... its just that this cd didnt convinced me much as others like slim shady lp, encore, the eminem show and others....
best songs in it imo are: till I colapse, crack a bottle, what do u got, wanksta freestyle
but I repeat, I dont know what u mean by "new album"... if someone knows if relapse 2 is available, or knows when it will be please notify me!

I can't comment much on it only had one listen to the whole album.. But its fresh unlike most of the bullshit that comes out nowadays. The beats are hot. The one Alchemist beat on it is my favorite so far. I'll make a final verdict after a couple of listens.

This is good tho, cuz 8 diagrams was crappy.
