I love Dida he makes lots of little mistakes but on his day he can make some fantastic saves. But both Dida and Kalacs are not that reliable I was wondering when Milan would do something about it.

Serie A Weekend Preview: Round 18

Atalanta – Roma

Atalanta will be hoping that the New Year brings them good luck, as they are currently in a sticky run of form which has seen them pick up just one win in Serie A since the first week of November. Nevertheless they are still having an excellent season in eighth position and are looking more than likely to challenge for a UEFA Cup spot.

Roma desperately needed to get back to winning ways against Sampdoria before Christmas following two disappointing draws against Livorno and Torino.   They did so with a 2-0 win, however Inter’s 2-1 victory in the Milan derby means that the Giallorossi still trail the Nerazzurri by seven points at the top. Roma have to win here or else their Scudetto challenge could go up in smoke.

Cagliari – Udinese

Cagliari are rock-bottom of Serie A and are looking like certainties for relegation following yet another defeat before the winter break.

They crashed 5-1 at Fiorentina, meaning they are now five points adrift of safety. The Sardinians will be hoping that new boss Davide Ballardini can inspire them to a heroic escape in 2008.

Udinese players were already looking forward to their Christmas dinners against Empoli in week 17, before the away side scored in the 93rd minute to snatch a 2-2 draw.

Despite this disappointment the Zebrette are still having an absolutely brilliant campaign and they are currently flying-high in fourth position. A Champions League spot at the end of the season is not out of the question.

Catania – Juventus

Catania are having a very steady season so far, although they fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at lowly Reggina in week 17.

Nevertheless the Sicilians are still looking comfortable in 10th position and with the likes of Juan Manuel Vargas and Jorge Martinez on their roster they should have no worries about relegation.

Juventus will be hoping to begin 2008 just how they finished 2007 – with a victory.

The Old Lady are unbeaten in eight games, five of them wins, and have kept four clean sheets in their last five matches. This has helped them into an excellent third position in their first year back in the top-flight.

Empoli – Reggina

Empoli showed great improvement before Christmas to move out of the relegation zone and this continued in week 17 against Udinese.

The Tuscans scored a 93rd minute equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw against the high-flying Zebrette. They will be confident of gaining all three points this weekend.

Reggina remain second-from bottom in the table, although they ended 2007 with an impressive 3-1 home win against Catania.

This game will be a huge relegation six-pointer as Reggina can move above Empoli with a win here, while the Azzurri can open up a five-point gap over their rivals.

Lazio – Genoa

Lazio will be hoping that 2008 will bring them some good fortune after a simply disastrous first half of the season.

The Biancocelesti are languishing in 14th position just four points above the relegation zone and are in desperate need of a win here.

Genoa had also been struggling badly and before their match in week 17, they had not won in nine games.

However a 1-0 win over Parma has sparked some renewed hope and they are up to 11th, one point above Lazio.

Milan – Napoli

All eyes will be on Milan this Sunday in anticipation of the much-awaited debut of teenage wonderkid Alexandre Pato.

Pato is seen as the possible saviour of the Rossoneri in what has so far been a hugely disappointing domestic campaign. They are languishing in 12th position, 25 points behind league-leading city rivals Inter, and have still failed to win at home in the league.

Napoli have been excellent on their return to Serie A this season, and are currently sitting in seventh position in the standings.

Nevertheless their form has stuttered of late, with just two wins in their last eight matches. The Partenopei will be hoping to spoil Pato’s big day at San Siro.

Parma – Fiorentina

Parma had been looking like real relegation candidates early in the season, however they had an impressive November and December, losing just three games from nine.

This has given them a slight gap over the bottom three, and in 13th position, they are level on points with the likes of Milan and Lazio.

Fiorentina ended a run of five matches without a win before Christmas when they thrashed Cagliari 5-1 at the Stadio Franchi.

Coach Cesare Prandelli will hope this sparks the sort of run that saw them rack up 15 matches in all competitions without defeat at the start of the season. They are still looking strong in fifth position, just one point outside the Champions League places.

Sampdoria – Palermo

Sampdoria were desperately disappointing in the early part of the season, however the explosion into form of Antonio Cassano in December saw an upturn in fortunes.

Cassano was suspended for the 2-0 week 17 defeat by Roma, however Samp will still go into 2008 with optimism as they are ready for an assault on the European places in ninth position.

Palermo also had an impressive December, helping them rise to sixth position in the standings, however they will be still kicking themselves for throwing a two goal lead during the 2-2 draw with Lazio before Christmas.

Nevertheless with Amauri in red-hot form the Rosanero will go into this difficult match at the Stadio Ferraris in confident mood.

Siena – Inter

Siena finished 2007 with an impossible away trip to Juventus, and they begin 2008 with an even more difficult match against mighty Inter.

The Tuscans are back in the relegation zone following their 2-0 defeat in Turin and their hopes of climbing out of it this weekend look very slim.

Inter continued their unstoppable form in week 17 as they came from behind to beat Milan 2-1 in the derby.

The Nerazzurri are still unbeaten in the league, having won 13 and drawn four of their 17 matches. They are seven points clear at the top of the table and are looking odds-on to retain the Scudetto.

Torino – Livorno

It was no surprise whatsoever that Torino’s clash with Napoli in week 17 finished up as a draw.

The Granata have now drawn a simply incredible 11 games this season, and will surely break the record for the number of ties in a season if they continue along this path. Despite losing just four games this campaign, the fact they have only won two also means they are hovering dangerously above the drop zone in 15th place.

Livorno also drew last time out, 1-1 with Atalanta, and are even closer to the bottom three with just one point separating them and 18th placed Siena.

However it is a miracle that the Amaranto are in the position they are in considering the fact they picked up just two points in their first nine league matches.

They have since gone the next seven unbeaten, winning three of these ties, and indeed they have not lost since the end of October.

Latest League Table

If A.c Milan can win there next game it will move them up to 7th in the table and if they can will there 3 games in hand they will be 6th Place and only 1 point behind Fiorentina so playing in Europe next season seems very possible but Roma and Juventus are going to have a tough time catching Inter Milan as they are looking undoubtful to los so far this season.

Places 6th-12th are really tight.

Looks like Inter will take it, but anything can happen.
