Real Madrid centre-back Pepe stole the headlines this week for all the wrong reasons after he went berserk during his side’s pulsating 3-2 win over Getafe on Tuesday night.

Having apologised profusely immediately following the game for his on-field assault on his opponent, Javier Casquero, the Portuguese has now broken his silence after taking some time off to reflect on the incident.

“These are the worst days of my life. I do not have any desire to return to playing football,” he said in an interview with Marca from his home in the Spanish capital.

“I have seen the replays of the incident, but I do not recognise myself. I lost my cool and I went crazy, but that is not me.

“The worst punishment is going through what I’m experiencing now. If I see that there’s no chance of me returning to football again, then I will try something else.”

Pepe is expected to be handed a significant suspension and fine by the league and by his own club, which could effectively end his season and Madrid career - especially if the new administration decides to give him the axe.

Fifa is planning new rules that enable players that are involved in things like this to be charged with assult.

i thought he kicked the guy because he dove; but then you can see that Pepe just pushes him over, conceeding a stupid penalty; then both kicks are clearly aimed at the player! It was wild as hell. Really violent and dangerous, i guess 10-15 games would be appropriate, but definitely not a life ban.

Soo many? I can't really recall this..  A 10 game ban is sufficient. And as for the assault thing that's not right. Football is not the streets and it never will be. It has it's own realm and should not even be compared to crimes outside the pitch.

oh no, it couldn't have been his fault

anyway, i would push for a 4-5 game suspension, but that's mostly because it doesn't bother me.  fuck, when ricardo clark kicked carlos ruiz in the face, i would've given him a medal instead of a 9 game suspension

we aren't "too hard" on soccer players.  anytime you receive an extremely large amount of money, be prepared to be thrust into the limelight.
