Rooney - Discussion
« on: Feb 23, 2008, 10:07: AM »
Well, I would like to have a discussion regarding Rooney.

He's a great player. He's vital for us, he brings passion to the game. You can tell he loves playing for us and for England. He's probably the best English player right now. He tracks back a lot and helps the defence, he can carry the ball up in no time, and his partnership with Ronaldo on the field is great. He creates so much damage for the opposition which is really important for a striker. The more you create damage, the sooner the opposition will break down.

What are your views?

Please no bullshit comments..

in my opinion so no body begain insults and things like that. he is not a good player. he really has no skill. he suits the EPL since shooting is the only thing he is good at.

Here are a few English lads who are just as good and I think most of them are better than Rooney but don't get the same amount of exposer Theo, Agbonlahor, Young, Lennon, Bentley, Joe Cole, SWP, A. Johnson and Downing. Hes no where near the best I'm not even gonna bother with the A. Coles, Terrys, Ferdinands, Lampards and Gerrards. Rooney is simply overrated.

i have to disagree, firstly because of what i sed in another thread about man utd have never lost this season when rooney has played. when you get a manager like sir alex fergerson, capello saying rooney is a gr8 player, i dont really see any valid argument tht can come from any of us.  So it is not a matter of opinion, people might not like the way he plays which is fair enough, but to argue he isnt a extremly good player.... is just plain stupid

Moby, Rooney has run the ball countless times and then chip it over the goalie when he's like a meter away from the goalie... do you even watch him?

You could say that. Beautiful game last year v Bolton Ronaldo got a goal and 3 assists and Rooney got a hattrick and an assist. And you've just seen Ronaldo's nice cross to Rooney, what a goal.

Obviously the United haters will disagree. It just pisses me off how people can see no talent in that.

I don't think in the world. Rooney is good. And that is where it stops. You don't become a good player because you "have passion and love the game!!" It doesn't really factor in to how well he plays. I love the game, i have passion, but i'm not the best player in the world. Is Rooney a good forward? Well, he has 8 goals this season, Tevez with 11. If anyone argues that Rooney has been better than Tevez this season, then that is plain stupid. Tevez has saved United's ass on multiple occasions, from embarassment at White Heart Lane and in Lyon for example. Tevez has simply been the better forward this year. Oh, but Rooney is the better player because he tracks back with passion and love for the game!!!

That does make a difference imo. If you can help your defence, then it's better for the team. The more grit and determination you have, the better. Let's saying your down 1 goal in the 90th minute and the opposition has the ball in your half, are you just going to stand there? No, you're going to want to get the ball as fast as possible. That's the difference between a normal striker, and a good striker. Tevez also does this sometimes. Rooney was magnificent last year no doubt. This year he has been injured, and suspended for a few games.
