last time i checked this album wasn't even rap

hip hop is a very creative form of music; all you need is your mouth and a creative mind. you need to sway away from the main stream crap that you are exposed to and culture yourself my friend. go listen to the cold vein, come back, tell me "it sucked", so i can laugh at you

you can't seriously be trying to tell me to culture myself in music when you actually defend this genre. if you want cultured try listening to jazz, bluegrass, folk, or anything other than hip-hop bullshit. yes me and mikael both listen to heavy metal(i hate most of what mikael listens to too), but the understanding of what is musically good is much better than this garbage. hip-hop is probably the least creative art form in music for many years. mainly just samples other peoples works and makes random rhymes. please humor me more about how i need to be cultured by listening to more hip-hop.

Ha-ha, same. Both of my parents have been pro. musicians for over 20 years and they can't stand anything that I listen too but, however, they both agree that hardcore/metal is MUCH harder to produce and play than all that rap/hip-hop junk.
I can't understand why someone would say that people who have ABSOLUTELY NO musical education can write better music than the ones who spent years in music schools and are still trying to improve their skills. :) Also, the vocals... That's the main reason I find post-hardcore so good. The variations between screaming/low pitched vocals and extremely high pitched vocals make my days go better.
But whatever, this thread is about Kanye West, not rock, and it's ok to like rap better than rock/metal, but it's wrong to say that it takes more skills.

Im not dissagreein with your post, although lyrics written by many rap artists are brilliant. You can't say rappers have an easier job than the musicians of rock. Ask one of your favourite artists to write down a rap, its not as easy as you say.

Most rappers have a very large vocabulary, they are able to put together words amazingly and poetically. It seems youve done your research on your genre of music, maybe you should research on rap to straighten your facts.

Did I say anything about the lyrics? Don't think so. Lyrics are part of your personal preference. As for me, I like the lyrics in Fugazi and Thursday songs, but I don't listen to them because I don't really like their performance. To say that lyrics are the main part of music is simply wrong because it'll mean that all of the great composers (Beethovan, Tchaikovsky, etc) are nothing compared to rappers.
P.S. You've proven my point. You like rappers as poets, not as musicians. ;)

According to the Grammys and the American Music Awards and other award shits, he is a rapper. He won best rap album (graduation) which beat Lil Wayne's the carter III, best rap song, best rap/hip-hop artist (even beating Lil Wayne)

I respect Kanye, he's made some sick music. But I hate ppl who say that he's the best rapper. I mean there are better "rappers" nowadays than him.

actually i would say most rockn'roll bands could write a rap quite easily. they have to write rhyming lyrics too you know. since when do most rappers have vast vocabularies? last time i checked the most common words in rap are ni$$er, hoe, bitch and fuck. basically rappers look to say the most offensive and degrading things they can think of to make themselves sound hard. also its not a good comparison on the difficulty of asking a rock band to make a rap than a rapper to play a guitar solo. one of these actually takes skill, the other just takes a little patience.

Too say all hip-hop/rap artists use vocabulary that is degrading and vulgar is really narrow minded. Though many do, not all do and many songs are brilliantly written and actually have meaning. It definitely takes a lot of skill to compose good raps and it definitely takes a lot of skill to produce good rock songs(it just takes use of different skills). You can't say which genre is more difficult or skill demanding because it varies on how good the artist is.
 It's all preference. :dontknow:

try listening to jazz? I'm from New Orleans; you know, the birthplace of jazz.

so, please, my young friend. i'm open to all sorts of music, and i probably know how to appreciate it more than you do.
kid your retarded, but i can see there is no point arguing since you will never give up. one of the major key words that i used in my statements against rap music in general is most. if you disagree that 90% of all hip-hop and rap just curse and degrade people you definitely have your head up your ass when you are listening to it. there are examples of where even i think that rap/hip-hop is good, but its just very rare since what is normally popular amongst the genre is the garbage. Some good rap artists are the roots, miles davis's doo bop album(he randomly did a hip-hop album), and many of the stuff in the early 80s which were mainly just dance tracks that needed some sort of vocalization over them. i'll even admit that kanye is closer to the good end of the hip-hop scene, but his music is rather bland when compared to other genres and also he is part of the 10% is doesn't write only filth in his lyrics. the only thing i really would ask of you if you consider yourself a fan of genres like jazz, bluegrass, folk, etc. is why would you waste your time listening to hip-hop when the other genres have some much to offer? my reason for my opinions on the genre are that the majority of it is definitely garbage musically and poetically. there are always some diamonds to be found in the rough, but that does not make up for the majority. despite how horrible most of 4e's music is, it amazes me that he really is the person on here who makes the most sense about music.
p.s.
big fucking whoop that your from new orleans. its not like i'm not from one of the most famous music cities in the world. your proof on how you know on how you know more jazz than me is bullshit. maybe if you were enrolled in the program, and one artist coming to perform. wow i could just go see any famous jazz musician and it would be the same. well i'm done posting on this topic. 4e if you read this i think we need to bring our music thread back so we can have some people who make sense about it.

90%? but, of which artists are you looking at? oh, you're watching MTV and BET again aren't you?

you are using generalizations about the genre. i'm sure there are plenty of garbage(by your standards) rock songs.

if you think you are so musically cultured, then you'd actually understand and appreciate what good hip hop is. i've never said any genre is garbage, therfore making me much more cultured than you my friend.

you're one of those egotistical "my music is better than yours", ignorant type person. anytime you start an argument with that attitude, you lose. :hello:

i've never understood the point of ignorant people bashing something that other people like and they don't. something you don't understand is that your mind doesn't work the same way as mine, or anyone who listens to and composes hip hop. you grew up and were raised differently. hip hop (no, i'm not talking about soulja boy) is all about speaking from the soul. about life, tough times, and spirituality. i can relate to hip hop much easier than i can a metal song. when it boils down to it, i don't consider it a better genre of music; it's all the same to me, but i just can't relate to metal or country.

so next time you want to talk about a different genre, culture essentially, take a moment to think about it. don't be so ignorant.

well, i'm sure that'll be hard for you.

oh, and to answer your question about why i "waste my time" with hip hop, etc: the answer is simple, as i just finished explaining to you. i love the creativity and fluency that i hear when i listen to hip hop. for some reason you keep referencing degrading women, etc. i don't listen to 50, nor do i listen to T.I or what have you. i've got thousands of hip hop songs that probably don't even mention women (i.e the Cold Vein); the music i listen to is creative, whether you are a fan of hip hop or not.

the point of listening to music is to get something out of it. i can be soothed and i can relax with jazz or classical. but when i want to be zoned out in another world, i can do so by listening to rap. different rhyme schemes, flows, words, patterns, etc. are all what make up a great rapper. i'm sure you have your reasons to listen to whatever it is you do. nothing is really better than anything else. you could say the same thing about food or movies. people eat/watch what they do because it may simply be what satisfy's certain aspects of thier lives.

i'd like to hear a response from you without calling me a retard, that in itself again shows your close mindedness.

4e if you read this i think we need to bring our music thread back so we can have some people who make sense about it.

you do know that you are using a logical fallacy in your argument: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasty_generalization

but then again, you do "make sense about it"

it's what you think is entertaining. i don't like the music, but what entertains me is when i stand between tenthousands of people singing and going wild with heavy bands like iron maiden (experience )

like i said i'm not going to argue with you, because you will never let yourself lose. i'm going to make peace by saying if you really are as cultured in music as you say we would probably share much of the same taste and be able to introduce each other to new music each of us like.  the only other thing i will say is 90% of the hip-hop i mention is what is on mtv and bet; stuff that is underground is small minority in the genre and i agree thats normally where there is quality in hip-hop and many other genres. my only point is that rappers are compared to true music legends like the beatles, miles davis, and bob dylan, and there has been no hip-hop act that has compared to these artists. i'm done and the only reply i wanna see from you is that you agree to be finished arguing.
