it's a slight hop, I think it was like a natural reaction of the body. IMO, he just wanted to stand on his toes but his body forced a little hop. I'm pretty sure he can do it without jump.
it happens to me when attempting patw, I want to jump high, but I feel like I'm not doing high enough, then I check the video and I'm like wtf!?
