Portsmouth is a mid table team, 130 million pounds in debt, and won't break into the top 4 before teams like Man City and Aston Villa. Going to such team might be good for a bit but if things don't start panning out like he envisioned, he would quickly lose interest. It's nice to be part of something that's improving, but if he joins the team and can't make them a top team in a year or two, he will lose interest. In reality, I don't think he can make enough of a difference right now to break a team like Portsmouth into the top 4. I'm sure he'd be worse off after one year than playing for AC Milan, where he already has to work to get his team into the CL next season.
