let's give this one a try

you have to make a 6-day trip through the desert. a normal person can carry food and drink for 4 days. you can also rent carriers that go with you, but they have to eat and drink too of course. what is the fewest amount of carriers you need to rent to make it alive to your destination? (also the carriers must survive)

i dont know why though

1 carrier= 8 days food for 2 ppl.
2 carriers= 12 days food for 3 ppl.

having any carrier will carry less food than they eat, so having any carrier will not help, so the fewest you must have is 0. i dont know how you survive yourself though  lol

you can't do it by yourself because can only carry food for four days and the journey takes six days. just explain for each day how it works (carriers don't necessary have to go all the way with you, they may return, but off course the way back also costs food)

you start at A. you take one carrier with you.

after the first day, you have eaten 1 of his 4 days of food, and he has eaten 1. he has 2 left.

after the second day he goes home, using 1 of his foods, he survives. you have gone forward and used 1 food of your own. 3 left.

after the 3rd day you have 2 left

after the 4th day you have 1 day left.

after the 5th day you have eaten, but run out of food.

while you are travelling on day 5, a carrier also travels from B (he eats 1 day of food getting to you, 3 left). you meet him at the end of your day.

day six you and the carrier travel to B and both eat, having 1 food left over

well, mikes solution makes all of them survive and let the traveller reach his destination, but the traveller can do it cheaper
