socks/tape over football socks
« on: Dec 14, 2007, 09:11: PM »

I personally do this because it looks good in my opinion, but has anyone else noticed almost over half of professional players (mainly in the premiership) are doing this now, I'm surprised nike/adidas haven't brought out a specific product, like some tight bandages specific for it? I'd of thought they'd make a LOT of money if they did.

Yeah, alot of the pro players have those socks nowdays. I  think they will introduce a product like that soon. Who was really the first that have it like that? Ronaldo?

Well there was guard stays
Which a lot of people started to have, Ronaldo being one of the first I think.
Im not sure who was the first but Ronaldo started to do this very early on, he must spend about an hour putting that much tape on.

and Andreas, without sounding like a twat I don't think theres really anything more to it, just that it makes that area less bulky and more compact therefore more accurate? Nike said that the osi sleeve, which is similiar to this, gets blood going to the legs because of the pressure against the skin.

I've noticed this too, I think Torres does it.

It's blatantly not for the looks side of things, as someone commented earlier it's just to keep things tight to maximise control.. I sometimes use electrical tape the same colour as my socks, makes sure small shin pads stay up.. Those Nike things look good, but they would get dirty and lost if i had them!

The reason why people started to do this is excactly that, to keep the shin pads stay up. Kinda annoying when they fall down like to your shoes, really annoying. I obviously put tape over my socks for the same reason, but also for the better look  ;).

Yeah, only once I put tape on. I looked awesome. But I taped around my leg at my lower shin and higher shin. Similar to what hockey players do.

Haha, funnily enough, I've lost one of mine. So now im just wearing socks over the top, and bandage underneath
