Big Changes in Barcelona
« on: May 19, 2008, 08:38: AM »
Barcelona sporting director Txiki Begiristain claims big changes lie ahead at the Catalan club following two seasons without a major trophy. Coach Frank Rijkaard has left the club after five seasons in charge and will be replaced by youth team boss and former Barca midfielder Pep Guardiola in the summer.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has recognised that former World Player of the Year Ronaldinho needs to leave the club if he is to revive his career.

--------------------------------------------

Not only that but there are other changes happening as well. What do you all think will happen with Barcelona next season? Will they bounce back? Who should they sign and get rid of?

If you like at their team on paper, you'd think, changes, why changes, this is a world class team. They need more chemistry and flow.

Ronaldinho and Deco will leave for sure I think.. haven't heard of any "in" trades.

A center mid? I happen to adore Xavi and Iniesta. I love the way they pop it around. What kind of midfielder are you talking about? I think that maybe they are missing a Pirlo figure. A player that creates the game from deep. I think Xavi can do that job but if they insist in playing him a bit further forward then a deep lying creative player is what I'd look for. Alonso could be available from Liverpool, lovely passer.

I have never been a huge fan of Henry so if I was in charge I would offload him, Deco and Ronldinho. I like the latter two but they need a fresh start, they seem to have lost their itch.

I hear they are trying to sign Pique from Man. Utd, I think the Spanish game is well suited to him and I think that could be a good move for him and Barca. At 4.5m it could prove to be a snip as well.

Abidal looks clumsy, I actually preferred Van Bronckhorst when he was there.

If I was in charge I would sign:

A left back- Ashley Cole?
Center back- Pique?
Cent Mid- Alonso?
Striker/Winger- Benzema/Ben Arfa?

exactly, a pirlo type player. Also, they need someone who can cross the ball. They don't penerate enough and they try to pick apart the defence with the tiny passes. Thats all well and good, but if you have the ball in the corner, don't radiate it back around, cross it. They have players who can cross the ball, but maybe a beckham type player would be useful.

They do need someone who can deliver but I don't think a Beckham type player could really play out wide with the way Barca play. I think they need someone direct who can get in behind more. You are right, they at times hit a brick wall in the last 3rd and struggle to pick teams apart. They need a player that can get to the byline and zip it across, who is out there that can do that and is available though?
