Freestyle Football Boxing?
« on: Jan 26, 2013, 10:02: AM »
So, a few friends of mine have played around with this idea. I think it would be awesome, because it provides another aspect to the freestyle competition. It's inspired by Chess Boxing where they alternate rounds of chess and boxing. Here's a video below.

The format will be:

3rds Freestyle
2rds Boxing

Winners can be decided by KO, TKO, or Decision.

The only thing I'm not 100% sure on how I'd like it is the judging. Freestyle definitely should get more rounds, so it has more significance, but I'm not 100% sure if I'd even want the boxing rounds judged or not. Since it requires people with two different skill sets to judge, it does bring some difficulties. We could have judges specifically for each or have both judge everything.

So, what do you guys think? Do you think this would be an enjoyable sport? Who do you think would be the champions to start off?

Haha, that would be something.  I've definitely noticed a trend in freestyle where the top freestylers are really taking care of their bodies.  Lots of weights, etc.  Maybe they would be interested in adding this boxing element to things.  I can definitly see Andrew go at it with Ethan or Oli.  That'd be brilliant.

PS: Dan would get KO'd first round... boom!

PPS: Imagine Aquaviva in the ring getting boo'd.  :043:

I like it, because it makes the competition a bit more unpredictable. You could get your ass kicked in a round of freestyle, but then you could KO someone in boxing. That or you must have at least decent defensive skills in boxing to survive and win the freestyle rounds. I understand many people would be hesitant to compete, but I know for a fact everyone would want to watch. It may even draw some more casual fans which means $$$$$$.

If I was to tell you Dan Magness agreed to a freestyle football boxing match against me if we can get it together would you support it? I just talked to Dan on Facebook, and he loves the idea. We could make this a part of a bigger freestyle event like Prague or something else. What do you guys think?

With chess yeah, but with freestyle definitely not.

It's unlikely for a guy to actually get kicked up and then go do combos without a fail. Too much if you ask me.

My guess is you've never trained boxing or anything before. That's ok. Not everyone would be competing in something like this. However, I know from experience that it is a feasible idea. Of course you might be in a bit of pain from the boxing rounds, but you will most likely be more than capable to do freestyle. Also, the entire point of this isn't to be the world's best at either individually. Both  of those guys in the chess boxing video would most likely lose in either chess or boxing competitions of the equivalent level. This competition would be for guys that are the best at managing the two. It was never meant to be something everyone would compete in. It's just an entertaining idea, and some people actually think it'd be awesome.

Personally, I'd love to see something like this. Would even like it better if it was MMA instead of boxing.

To learn to succeed, you must first learn to fail.
It's what you do that counts, but it's how you do it which separates you from the rest.
You can't have creativity unless you leave behind the bounded, the fixed, all the rules.

Hehe, I agree. I'd probably fair better if it is MMA as well since that's what I train. However, I think more people would be willing to participate in boxing as it seems the less violent sport from an outsiders view. Also, we want as many incompetent boxers entering as possible, so we get some nasty KOs.

For me it's a very interesting idea. Boxing bit doesn't fit into freestyle, so I think you would need to add something else. Something like this would bring a lot of 'recovery' for the sport. However, it's more suitable for a regular game than tournament.

The whole point is that it's mixing two very different sports. Boxing doesn't have to mix with freestyle. Do you think it mixes with chess at all? The entire idea is that you must be at leas so so good in both areas to survive. It makes it just a bit more interesting. I think decisions should lean towards the freestyle rounds, but it would be alot of fun. I think people would enjoy watching. It would just be a side tournament to a freestyle tournament or something. Maybe even, if someone like Dan Magness and I just wanted a match we could work it into a boxing card. We'll just have to see.

Yes, I know. It could be something unusual and interesting enrichment. Therefore, I would like to see the competition mixed with some sport (better with chess  :)).
