Lack of Video Compilations
« on: Jan 26, 2013, 09:02: AM »
It seems freestyle doesn't have that many video compilations.  Everyone makes their own videos but it's not often that you see a well made compilation of the best freestyle.

Maybe I'm wrong... thoughts?

I think more compilations should be made focusing on hardcore freestyle, stylish freestyle, lowers, uppers, etc.  Just highlighting freestyle in a way.

If there are some great ones out there, please post them.

I've noticed this too. I think it's just so many people concentrate now on themselves. There used to be much more. The only thing close to that now are meet videos, but not quite the same. It really all depends though. Just like compilation videos on any subject, some of them are awesome, and some of them suck.

I think we need more fans of freestyler who are willing to make these.  I think we got a big number of freestylers who simply make videos for themselves as you said.  We need the fans to contribute.

I hate to say it, but that may be from the movement from many to separate freestyle from football. It's not everyone, but many of the ones that want this are very vocal. Football fans are casual freestyle fans, and many of them would be the ones making videos. Instead of criticizing them for not being real freestylers, we need to accept them. Fortunately, I think the opinion on BF is improving. In recent times, there seems to be less of a remove football from freestyle attitude.

Seems like it's only the 2 of you on the forum now-a-days...
I remember loving jooooonnnnnnnnnny's compilations! All of the creative freestyle is what got me into it in the first place.
Now the community is very different and focused on individuals and hardcore

I miss Jooonnnny as well. He was a good member of the community. It seems like there are 5 of us on here. You should make it 6. I miss your Super Uber Cool Freestyle videos or whatever it's called.

Overall focus and popularity has gone to individual and hardcore. As much as people love them, the competitions haven't helped this. The theory that hardcore is better only got fueled by competitions. Nothing wrong with competitions. We just need more experienced judges that understand why other styles are good too and even how other styles can be hardcore.

I don't like compilations at all. Most of the time people are editing it like retards, different clip qualities, not every clip is as big as another, stupid effects/transitions between clips, music that doesn't fit the clips, etc. Looks very amateurish imo.
It's much harder to make a compilation of freestyle compared to other sports, since here we're still in the beginning stages having 'cheap cams', while in other sports almost everyone has the same HD cam so it's easier to make a nice vid of those clips

IWannaBeChuckNorris:
Agree, Jonny was such a badass at making compilation. Still have one in my computer, my all time favourite.

And I agree with Knnththhhthn that most of freestyle compilations are crap. I liked Mettzs compilations because they were not overedited, with good music choice and usually contained a fair amount of unseen freestyle clips (well, usually all of the clips were unseen).

Look at football... there are tons of shit compilations but there are also some brilliant ones.  It all depends on who's doing them.  It's not a good enough excuse.

I would say 2 out of 10 football compilations are brilliant.  Freestyle shouldn't be any different.  There are lots of HD freestyle videos now.  Even years ago, you can grab anything from Sven and make a compilation.  Nowadays, 5 out of 10 videos are in HD, if not more.

There should be a compilation competition here! I think that would be pretty cool  :13:

As in, who makes the best compilation of any video out there, or their own moves?

I wonder how many people we have that would be interested in editing videos.  I can definitely see it being cool.  Everyone could choose their own theme and feel for their compilation.
