Heavy Metal/Hardcore Music Thread
« on: Jan 20, 2013, 02:36: AM »
This is a thread for heavy metal, hardcore, punk, or any other extreme style of rock music. I feel this is a very distinguished section in the rock genre, so it deserves it's own thread. I'll start us off with some of my favorites.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9RJXWxth5g

Mikael and I had a thread like this a long time ago, but it got merged into the Rock thread which no one really looked in at the time. The thread largely turned into an argument whether rap music or heavy metal music took more talent. Mikael and my points were that metal bands are bands playing and writing all of their music. The rap point of view was their screaming vocals takes no talent and is unpleasant to listen to. I guess that makes sense for which is more talented. lol

Anyways, I'd prefer this not to to turn into that debate. I actually have an extremely eclectic taste in music, so I don't want to argue which genre is better. Lets keep this thread METAL AND HARDCORE!!!!!

You have an odd taste in music. I didn't like the first two and didn't bother with the third to be honest.
Would alt metal and post hardcore be fitting for this thread or are they not extreme enough?

Any form of metal would do. Really, I'm open to any form of harder than usual rock music. If it's alternative metal, it would fit perfectly.

Listened to both now. Very interesting mix of metal and orchestra sound. It's very different, not bad.

Why is my music taste odd? I'd say the two videos you posted are much more unusual, not saying they are bad. The first two I posted, Nine Inch Nails and Slayer, are actually fairly well known and popular bands in the US and worldwide. The 3rd one, Necrophagist, is a bit more underground. They are actually classically trained musicians that just happen to prefer death metal. Add a different vocal style and an orchestra, and they'd be fairly similar to the two videos you posted.

I swear I've never done that before and it always worked. Thanks for the fix.

Usually I can find something that is enjoyable in different genres. Say rhyming, drops, high or low, fast or slow, emphasis on words but with the two I listened two it seemed to be one straight line. I've probably missed something, I'll check the third one out now if YT is working again.

Third one is probably better of the three minus the death growls which I don't really enjoy.

This is the extent of the growling I can handle.

You should definitely look more into Nine Inch Nails in particular. The actual band is all just the lead singer. He writes, arranges, and performs all the music on his albums. He also composes music for movies. Actually, the song I chose is one of my favorites from them, because it goes from very hard thrash metal almost to a melodic piano piece with vocals, then back to metal.

Slayer is more or less play the most brain melting crazy heavy metal solos as possible. Extremely high level guitar playing, but it's not for everyone. I'll be the first to admit.

Necrophagist is kind of similar to Slayer, but maybe a bit more technical guitar and polished sound. The only other difference is the vocal delivery.

Embedding changed. I'm not sure why, but all the sudden you had to delete that part. Ya, it's kind of annoying.

"Matheson bases his descriptions of the death experience itself on studies by Elisabeth Kuebler-Ross and Raymond Moody.[6] When reading these accounts, Matheson found that revived suicides told a much more frightening story than anyone else who had near death experiences."

Cant go for Power metal without Sabaton imo. Used to be into metal like Disturbed, Korn. But now more and more (well since like 6 years ago :p) into punk/Posthardcore/some metalcore (not the really hard stuff). Started with bands like Rise against, Billy talent and more rock ish stuff like THe white stripes. Now bands like A day to remember, The killing tree, Silverstein, Atreyu.
I'm a beginner, help me!

 :great:
I've heard of this genre, they have super short songs and their albums are like 10 minutes long. What's it called though?

They're alright, which is their best songs? I'm listening to them on YT and they all seem mediocre.

Ace of Spades! Good memories from Tony Hawk pro skater 4. Had that song on my music devices over so many years.
