Music: Changing
« on: Oct 22, 2012, 09:46: PM »
As some of you may know, I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan. Recently, however, I believe her music style is starting to change. She is clearly forgetting her country roots. She is using overused auto-tune techniques. This style can be greatly associated with the worst abominations to the rap industry: Lil Wayne and Drake. If you listen to any of her recent music, it's impossible to pick up any type of country vibe. Taylor Swift used to be the reason for the tear drops on my guitar, now she is just someone I used to know.

Does anyone else feel their favorite musical artist is changing?

Eminem doesn't appeal to me any more. I want Slim Shady, he's a bit too serious now..and not in the good way like Mocking Bird.

Music changes all the time for many artists. It's normal.

On the case of Taylor Swift, I never really considered her country. She has always been a pop singer to me, so this new transition only makes sense. There was never really that much country about her other than the marketing scheme. Real country music is almost dead. It only exists in bars in Nashville and small town shows.

Agree with you here, it seems now she's gone over-the-edge though. I don't feel like it's the same music anymore (from her first album to her latest). Her style has changed. Although it is normal, it's not something that everyone should do. I feel like everyone in the music industry is adapting to the new changes and ultimately losing their own roots along the way. Mac Millers new music is terrible, and I agree with the enimem standpoint as well.

Well they are free to make whatever music they want, move in whatever direction musically they want, which won't always please the same demographic. Maybe her new electric sound is just a method to cash in, by appealing to different people, who's to say!

perhaps its the same with Eminem, Recovery was not to my liking in comparison with the legendary albums like marshall mathers lp, eminem show and even though its criticized i think relapse was 10x better than Recovery! but its probably because he has few tough things in his life to rap about nowadays - but whatever the case, having rihanna in an eminem song is obviously just cashing in, what bs!
he is making his new album now, so hopefully he can improve, hopefully dre produces.
yeah eminem is 40 now it's crazy, i guess this is the reason why he is no longer wearing really gangster clothes like bandanas, baggy pants, and he never has blonde hair!

on a sidenote: fuck lil wayne and people who rap about stackin paper to the ceiling

this is much more profound i think

Some artists change for the better, some for the worse, and some just change, but quality is similar. The fact is music is more or less an opinion of what sounds good. There are specific things in music that are commonly agreed upon sounding good like rhyming lyrics and songs being played in key.

Artists will always change their style over a career especially when it spans over several years. The best example I can think of is the Beatles. The first couple Beatles albums are completely different sounding than their last few albums. I personally think there are great things about both time periods with the Beatles, but they are definitely different.
