K-1 is kickboxing. MMA means that striking and grappling techniques are allowed. Now, many kickboxers and MMA fighters compete in both sports. The stand up styles are fairly similar in both.

i thought k-1 was mma coz other martial artists of different styles compete in k-1 too...

Well, K-1 has promoted some MMA matches and events. Usually, if they do this it's mixed with kickboxing matches. On the whole, K-1 is primarily a kickboxing promotion. They are responsible for the big K-1 Dynamite New Year's Eve events that feature kickboxing and MMA matches.

Hey Jason (or anyone else) I dont watch MMA too often, but about a year ago, Ive seen some fight between some bald dude and some douchebag using BJJ and using a lot of hair gel   . The commentators said the hair gel guy had performed an arm lock on one of his opponents in one of his previous fights and poor dude had his arm broken without the chance of giving up.
The bald guy won and at the end of that fight, he was scolding that douche, haha.

Does any of you have an idea what their names were?

I think the name of the competition was something like King of the ring or King of the cage, not sure though
