Freestyle Football History
« on: Aug 18, 2012, 02:31: AM »
Freestyle is considered a relatively new sport, but when we take a look into the history, many will be surprised to learn that it is in fact an ancient art that has been around for well over 1500 years!
Right now it is impossible to find out the origin of this sport or to find out who the first freestyler was, because freestyle football is a combination of many other disciplines that have developed over the years across many different countries at the same time.
What we can do is list a number of events and people that have been of great influence throughout the years and who have made our sport for what it is today!

Circus Acts
Enrico Rastelli (1896-1931)
Rastelli is seen by many as the greatest juggler of all time and is also considered to be the first real football performer. Enrico was a football player as well and performed often in a football kit.  He was the first person ever to do an ‘around the world’ trick on camera and that’s why he is a true legend.

Forms of kicking and even juggling a ball is as old as human existence. It's really not that hard of a concept, so if you consider freestyle's basis just juggling it was definitely around a long time ago.

in the feudal Japanese times the nobility played some version of keepy ups with a kinda a ball filled with rice i think and that was quite a long time ago.. ill have to find it again. But i mean if people were playing keepy ups that long im sure they did some fancy stuff! so i guess freestyle has been around for a realllll long time 8-)
