What do you stand for... politically?
« on: Jun 25, 2012, 04:01: PM »
In the US of A, most people are either Republican or Democrat.  One side is more liberal, the other more conservative.

What do you stand for?

Personally, I'm more liberal when it comes to people's rights.  From a business side, I'd say I'm a little more conservative but pretty close to the middle.

I wish the Independents had more power in the US.  I think politicians who see things from both sides are the best.  You need a mix of the two rather than an absolute.

So, what are your thought on politics and general values when it comes to your life and national policies?

Liberal with some very moderate right idea's. Avoiding anything extreme (both left and right). Voting for parties that dont want to split Belgium into 2 parts.

its dangerous to indoctrinate yourself into one perspective, keep an open mind, because the party you like may not be as efficient and transparent as you would think
i think the type of politics a country adopts really depends on the situation in that country, in order to make that country the most efficient. i think its why in certain times republicans and democrats are voted in, its just because their ideologies would be suited to certain times better

its very surprising the situation with America, there really seems to be just two parties to represent such a broad society. i think this can be beneficial, as it keeps dangerous extremists out (systems like what is called first past the post in UK) but then it discriminates against large groups of the population who don't really get a say.

Adi, i think you are Bosnian? but can you vote in the upcoming election in USA? what do you think, Obama or Romney?

Yeah, I still have my Bosnian passport so I can't vote.

I'd vote Obama if I could though. Still like the guy.

Yup, doesn't make much sense.  Most of their beliefs are outdated yet half of our country still believes in the crap they stand for.  It's like religion... if you're parents are one thing, you'll be the same.  People don't have their own brain sometimes.

Obama will win most likely. I think it's about 90% chance for him. In recent times, the majority of the US just blames whichever party is in office for the problems in the country. That is why Obama won last time, and that is why Bush won against Gore. Normally, presidents will win their run for a 2nd term, and Romney is considered a somewhat weak candidate. He has many Republicans that don't like him as well.

As far as why Republicans views are still popular in this country. USA on the whole is much more conservative than much of the world, especially Europe. Even Democrats would be considered either moderate or conservative in many other countries. The reasons behind it are mainly 2 things: Economy and Religion. The way our economy works, people with money will always vote conservatively to keep them rich. USA has always been a very religious country. The 1st settlers that came from Europe were conservative Christians. This has rubbed off on our current population to keep many people very religiously conservative.

Isn't this contradictory?  If people blame the current party in office and Obama won because of this before, doesn't this mean he will lose his second term for the same reason?

That line alone does contradict itself, but I also mentioned that most presidents win their 2nd term just like happened with Bush. I'm sure you remember how much people hated Bush during that election, but he still won. Obama will most likely win his 2nd term, but in 4yrs the Rupublican candidate will most likely win.

lol you can't discuss politics, you'll cause a stir between logical thinkers and the outdated, backwards people.
