RBSS and other Comps - Repeting sets and routines
« on: May 27, 2012, 11:11: PM »
Saaw this spark in other thread, I'm interested how this affects the judges descision especially rbss. I know many who have repeted almost the exact same routine or varied it up slightly and go through far in comps like Rene, Yo, Yosuke, Jaime just to name some. Do you think it is okay to judge based on what tricks the guy did in the last battle? It is intereing...

I said so many times, that this is not EUROBAC, where you show a performance, its a battle, in my opinion it does not matter if you repeat, its all about to destroy the guy that you competing against.

I've said it in the previously mentioned thread and I'll say it again: if you think like this, you have no knowledge about freestyle battles.

Camill made a very good point why is it important not to repeat the same shit in every battle. Another point, which is also in response to your "its all about to destroy the guy that you competing against.", is that in battles you need to respond to your opponents tricks. How the f*** are you gonna respond to what someone just did with the exactly same stuff you did in your previous 3, 5, 10 or 20 battles?

Obviously, most judges still don't take set repetition into account in battles and one of the reasons is that actually only a small percentage of freestylers actually understands the concept of battles.

after so many rounds though it may be hard to come up with new routines on the spot and perfect it in the short amount of time they've got.

I think every freestyler more or less repeats the same tricks in every battle. Obviously, if you want to impress the judges, you need to add a few different and more impressive things each round, but it's almost impossible to not repeat some things.

Also, so many of you mention it being a "battle" and you must respond to other freestyler. You make it sound like we are living in a dumb breakdance movie. It's freestyle, and your tricks really have nothing to do with the other freestyler's tricks. It's not like you can defend or do anything to the other freestyler.

I always thought that if you vary your moves in each battle the judges will think that you have more to offer than the other competitor. And if you have more to offer, it may mean you're a better fser.
I dunno...

In a battle the fser who starts the battle has no previous round to respond to. And he also has no oppotunity to respond to the other fser's last round. So the other guy gets an advantage having more opportunities to respond.

Besides that, i don't think points should be given for type of response to the other fsers. You should be able to do your tricks and your style without losing points.

Also a battle in the first round of a comp has no previous battle to look at. So repeated tricks are not even a factor in these battles. Imo whether it is the 1st battle or the last the better freestlye performance should win.

But everyone has their own idea of a battle concept so do whatever you want and judge however you want :victory:

You don't have to do completely different routines in each round, but shit, don't repeat the exact same thing. That's like doing the same fucking LP at every half time show performance. Rinse and repeat crap. That's not what it's about. Yes, you'll repeat a good number of your core moves and combos, but you gotta add something new each round. Seems obvious. I'd say 20-30% new stuff is a good goal for a deserving champion.

When I see freestylers that have the same routine every round I dont class them as battling.... Its like if there was a wall blocking the other opponent they are doing the same. It is a battle so you have to reply to your opponent and if you are doing a routine that is the same in each battle then you are not replying to your opponent.
