I kind of see what your talking about, there have only been a few videos this year that really inspired me. Hoping to see a bunch soon.

i kinda' got what you are saying... freestyle isn't the same thing it used to be in the recent past.... freestylers behaving in battles as if someone like mr. woo... i mean they take battles as LP's which should be basic tricks and must only be to entertain some bunch of people walking by... i could be wrong but i think freestylers have become very conservative when it comes to LP'S and battles... they have limited themselves to hardcore videos which they would do in front of fellow freestylers... and after every sick combo others would start celebrating and the main freestyler would throw the ball out in frustration and succeeding (which i totally RESPECT) but this has made freestyle football little bit boring or constant and struck to some point... i maybe wrong but this is what i think... but it's not dead as more and more development and advancement is taking place very fastly..

It used to be the opposite 5-10 years ago.  Before, people would freestyle from ages 13-17, then they would quit when it's time to get serious about life and paying bills.  Now it's different... more and more freestylers stick around at the age of 20-25, but there are less new freestylers who come around. 

I think it has to do with experienced freestylers being able to earn money from freestyle nowadays.  At the same time, beginners are discouraged about the hardcore freestylers nowadays.  It's almost an unreal art what some of these freestylers do nowadays.  Before, you'd watch a video and feel confident you can pull of some of the tricks in a few weeks of practice.  With the videos nowadays, it's probably seems as impossible to do those combos as it is to become a professional footy player.

I don’t think freestylers get discouraged by hardcore freestylers. I think hardcore freestylers are ENcouraging actually.

I think the real reason some new freestylers get discouraged is because fs is mainly a sport you do by yourself. Team sports give more motivation.

Personally i don’t like playing team sports because i like to do my own thing, in my own way, because i’m an asshole    But it is still very motivating to me to bust a combo to show my friends and throw the ball to the ground etc

Anyway, on topic: Is fs dead? - No i think it’s very alive. But lowers is the only area which is growing nowadays. Uppers, sits, creative tricks etc are not growing because they are not many freestylers practicing these tricks in any hardcore way so it seems stagnant.

My point is that if you don’t like lowers or pay attention to the details of lower combos then fs may seem like it is not growing. But i wish JonKonik would explain his point a bit

i know what you mean... it isn't what it used to be in 2008 for example, the way freestylers interacted with each other (specially in this forum) had changed. Freestylers became professional (in 2008 I've never imagine all things I've lived with freestyle) and now it's more fun to go visit other country meet new people and compete LIVE than spend all the day in a forum where noobs are so unrespectful with most experienced guys.

What Adi said could be true, maybe the guys who aim to be freestylers are a bit intimidated with the high level but, don't the new break dancers feel the same??? Maybe there are less kids getting involved in freestyñe football but the one who take the challenge will be class!

I don't think it's dead. I think it's growing a lot. There were no actual freestylers in the Philippines in 2008. Now, there are a few in Manila and others are trying to do some juggling and stalls.
It's just that the new kids are coming up and not many of them are trying to do their own thing. Many of them are so frikkin mainstream. Many new hardcore fsers didn't like eclipse and v-stalls now many of them are doing it. Basically, almost everyone is a copycat.
Most of those inventing stuff aren't really showing them on youtube. Check out the Japanese fsers in their RBSS. The FS scene there is very much alive.
I think it's just the forum that's dead.
It's coming back up though.
Now if only a certain kid named jon would release a new sit down video......

You have to be a fool to show your new stuff/tricks and combinations for battles :P
I spect massive and hardcore creativity in Italy and in Prague as well
