ok so i ask you why do they need such a big video to motivate the gouvernment with everybody sharing the video when the gouvernment has allready been haunting kony for years?

The government has been hunting him in limited fashion... limited resources, limited will.  That won't catch him.  There's a reason he's been running around for 20+ years.  They need more will and the only way that will happen is if people really give a crap about it.  You think the US will send in forces into Africa without a reason?  You know how it is.  They'll only go in if there's something in it for them.  Unfortunately, there's not much to gain for the US.  However, if millions of its citizens rise up, protest, and create a big havoc, the governments will be forced into action.  It's always like that.  Right now there are limited "assistants" in African helping the Ugandan forces organize, etc but that's not enough.  More forces need to be there and more of them need to be dispursed across the other African countries where Kony has moved to.  With more recognition of the matter in the US and other countries, there is a great chance the government will feel obliged to assist.

also why does the charity navigator rate them with two stars? and last but not last you call a yale professor a weak source?

Because they didn't allow their records to be independently reviewed.  Big deal... look at it how you want.  Only 31% of their donations go to Africa but you gotta realize that there are tons of expenses running this company.  Their founders make under 100K which is reasonable and they have tons of expenses for travel to Africa, recording materials, and promotional things.  If you watch the video, you know they are doing it for a good cause.  You can always question things and think of conspiracy theories, but personally, I choose to believe that these people are doing it for a good cause.

The professor might seem like a good source but even he is just offering his opinion, like I can.

Here is what he said:

Quote
There’s also something inherently misleading, naive, maybe even dangerous, about the idea of rescuing children or saving of Africa. It’s often not an accidental choice of words, even if it’s unwitting. It hints uncomfortably of the White Man’s Burden. Worse, sometimes it does more than hint. The savior attitude is pervasive in advocacy, and it inevitably shapes programming. Usually misconceived programming. The saving attitude pervades too many aid failures, not to mention military interventions. The list is long.

Don't agree with that... there is nothing naive and misleading about saving children who were captured by this idiot.  It's only moral to do so, no excuses.

What's crap is the writer's mentality towards the whole thing.  A lot of the things he's bashing is beyond the point of the video and effort.  The goal of the charity and video is to create awareness and push people and government into action.  They are reaching out to the right starts and political figures.  Their intent is not to fight the actual war.  They are trying to do what they can but ultimately the government needs to step in and decide the right course of action.  The video and charity are trying to assist with that.  The article puts too much stress and pressure on the Charity to solve this whole problem.  Their objective, however, is not to solve this on their own.  They are just part of this, trying to add extra pieces that can make it happen.

Uganda has Oil.

Also your main point seems to be to make people aware of this problem and i agree with you that this video does a great job in making people aware of this problem. but the second big message this vieo has is to donate money to invisible children to support the war against kony. and who is fighting this war? the army of uganda who is well known for killing homosexuals and also raping women. here you can see them in one and the same picture http://nationalpostnews.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/invisiblechildren11.jpg?w=620

i wonder if the 5 year old would still like to be like his father now.

Furthermore it is just plain stupid to believe that it will be any useful to stop kony because there are 100s of konys in africa. you wont save any children if you can actually get kony.

and yeah it has been watched that many times because its reaching out for your very basic emotion, to save children. but you dont do that by sharing a video on the internet, its not as easy as that.

Its really a good thing that people know about kony now but this whole money donating thing doesnt seem serious to me.

I don't know man... raising the money is important too.  I'm not saying they use 100% of the money correctly, but most charities don't.  There are lots of expenses and managing millions of dollars usually results in a few leaks.  I still think a lot of good comes of this.  The money is helping with education, shelter, food, etc.  Not all the money goes to the Ugandan army to fight Kony.  I think some does but I'd say the majority goes to civil efforts.

As I said before, stuff like this is never perfect.  You just have to decide if there is more good than bad.  For me, I see plenty of good behind this.

Most charities dont use ANY of the money correctly ;) Thats why I have no problem with giving some money to a blind man in a subway, but I completely ignore anyone who is begging "Please, save the third world, they are starving, have bloody diarrhea and shit" because the people that need the money most likely wont see anything...  :great:

Do you really think they invade in Uganda because of this Kony? :cheesy:
Didn't you learn by experience? After all the lies beginning with Afghanistan, after Iraq (lies about weapons of mass destruction, after Lybia (installing a new regime) and before Syria and Iran now this propaganda video about Kony. Haha wake up guys, they don't give a shit about human rights. Look at the laws which America has legislated the last months. Sry, I notice that I sound like Oli at this moment :-D But for me this is too clearly...

The US hasn't invaded Uganda... they just sent a few "consultants" to help with the situation.  They don't see a need to go in, which is wrong.

What laws has American legislated over the last few months that are so terrible? :017:

The US hasn't invaded Uganda... they just sent a few "consultants" to help with the situation.
Which situation? I heard several speeches from Ugandans which said that Kony hasn't been seen there the last 6 years and no one cares about it now. Try to think clearly: USA bombed Iraq for several reasons (like oil, install a new regime, by the way you can test new military weapons), the whole war based on a lie. Hundreds of thousands people died, most of them: CHILDREN! Btw they partly use(d) uranium ammunition, so they also destroy many lifes of children because they will be borned in future with obstructions. And that's not a conspriracy or sth., it's the bitter truth. Now, an emotional video has been made about Kony, that he rapes children etc, which got nearly 100 million views in only a few days. Everyone who doesn't share this vid on fb etc., HAS NO HEART! So...as always you have to ask the question: Who benefits from this?

they just sent a few "consultants" to help with the situation.
Consultants? Surely not...about 5000 soldiers have been sent to Uganda to find Kony. And as always, this is just a beginning. Remember Libya? The goal was to create a no fly zone. But how did it end? With bombing the whole infrastructure and thousands of civilians, including..guess who..THE CHILDREN :-) I know I'm slightly off-topic, but I just want to show it's always the same, always the same lies. And after all these lies: Do you really think they care about any Children or human rights? :-D The media manipulates us so hard, that we sometimes think war is peace.

They don't see a need to go in, which is wrong.
No reason to go in? A high amount of oil & natural gas has been found in 2009. Google if you don't believe :)

What laws has American legislated over the last few months that are so terrible? :017:
Never heard of NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act)...or ACTA/SOPA? If not, please google it :-)

SOPA won't pass and it's not official yet... just trying to make its way through the court system, as are 1000s of other laws.

The US has too much oil in the Middle East and off-shore to bother with Uganda for that reason.  They haven't commited to helping Africa once in its history, and this hasn't changed.

They have sent only a few consultants to help the Ugandan army strategically attack Kony.  The US has never sent 5000 soldiers for this cause.  Please show proof if you think otherwise.

The US messed up with Iraq and everyone here knows it.  At least they got Sadaam but that's not a good enough reason to spend billions and kill thousands.  Everyone knows we got it wrong, and we can thank Bush for that one.  At least Obama has a better foreign policy and does things strategically rather than simply sending thousands of soldiers to attack a country for one person.
