Freestyle Scene = Dead?

i think the problem is that today, your motivation can't be to become the best, because it's almost impossible. And if you just do it for fun and you don't train a lot, you won't get noticed today, like 5 years ago Latw was an incredible trick, and today nobody cares...

Also if the younger people today have the choice between playing PlayStation or go out to do sports, more and more choose playing PS...
Though I have to admit that playing FIFA11 in HQ is a big difference to FIFA 98 RTWC  :-D

Yeah... when freestyle was new and young there was nothing like Playstation, we lived in the caves and threw stones at witches... aah, i remember that good old time!

Freestyle is not Dying ...but this forum is (sorry).
Facebook is taking over big time when it comes to forum style.
Also youtube hits might get less views , but thats because there are just to many of them.

I'd say that youtube videos get more views? I remember back when a good freestyle video could never get more than 10k views..Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the impression I had.. Also just because of Facebook, it helps getting people more views, because people share the videos with their friends.

Completely agree with Ethan about the Winter thing. I started freestyle last Winter so I didn't really understand what was so bad about it because I'd been 'born' into it but this year it's definitely a lot harder to practice, for each individual, therfore, less videos, therefore even less motivation for individual freestylers, etc...

This 'dead-freestyle' period has only been going on since Winter and that's no coincidence.

In regards with what Ethan said, winter definitly makes it more depressing, I got like 3 feet of snow so I haven't had a decent practice in weeks (garage isn't that great)
I also wouldnt say hardcore is destroying the sport, its what built the sport. But hardcore makes it so intimidating, by the time I (if) I Were to reach the level in 2 years where the level is now, 15amatw nt would be considered intermediate. Imagine what an atw will be, it probably won't exist anymore...

I like where the sport is going (hardcore) but it makes it impossible for néw fsers to catch up.

It's interesting reading all the different opinions.  Honestly, I have no idea why it's slowing down.  I guess it would take some serious research to figure it out.  But yes, our forum has slowed down quite a bit.  A lot of it has to do with the soccer and general chat sections, and not just freestyle.  When people stopped posted about soccer and general shit, many of the classic members lost interest. 

By the way, I've always hated how new freestylers were treated in freestyle.  I don't care what anyone says, but most beginners are not given enough encouragement.  That's probably the main thing.  We should encourage new freestylers to come on here.  Hell, if we have to create a Beginners forum for their videos, that's fine, but we can't make them feel like shit.  We should help everyone so the sport can grow.

I know we have 10x more shit on this forum and website than before.  Our social network is nice but barely anyone uses it.  It's really annoying.  I've spent quite a bit of time and effort trying to get this to look all nice but barely anything is every used up to its potential.  I don't know... I'll keep trying to promote the front page, news section, live stream, and soccer/general sections.  We'll see if things turn around.

I really have to disagree with that. There are many freestylers that have caught up with tricks in the last year or so, and I'm sure everyone can do it if they put in as much effort.

I disagree completely,

1. I think its more the forum itself that is starting to slow down abit, not freestyle.
2. Winter is such an important point, during the winter i trained literally fuck all, and i guarentee most other freetylers trained less aswell, therefore less videos etc. The days r starting to get longer and i am triaing a good half an hour more a day now etc.
3. Personnlly, on the hardcore front, hardcore will definately start picking up once everyone starts training more.
4. Also so many more people r starting to get into freestyle now a days, like even stuff like Dans radio interview etc is an example of spreading the sport etc, and i am sure there have been many other examples of freestylers doing radio/ tv interviews etc.
