Newcastle Freestyler Footballer Chris ‘Bevs’ Beavon, sensationally won the 2010 Power Balance Australian Freestyle Football Title at Federation Square on Saturday afternoon by beating reigning champion Kane ‘Insane’ Edwards.
This year’s titles dangled a huge carrot in front of the competing Freestylers with the Pro Final winner getting the opportunity of a lifetime, a place on the 2011 Freestyle Football World Championship Tour which is due to start in the middle of next year in Malaysia. Also new this year was the format which changed from being a ‘battle’ to a ‘show’ to keep it more in line with where the World Championship will be heading next year and Bevs show in the Final showed how far freestyle has come in a short time. With his routine fully choreographed to music, the 20 year old’s three minute routine was near flawless and combined big tricks in time with the beat of the music which got him over the line over reigning champ Edwards, who as usual produced some spectacular hardcore lower freestyle tricks which led to some drops and proved to be his undoing.
“I was really happy with my final routine, especially after I messed up my opening qualifying routine, but I feel sad for Kane because I know how much he wanted this. I knew with the quality of freestylers here that I had to do something different to win it so was glad that the judges liked my routine and now I get to travel overseas and meet up top freestylers who share the same passion as me for the sport.”
In the other Final of the day Melbourne’s Elias Oraha took out his 2nd Amateur Crown with a mature performance which has shown how far he has come in terms of his live performance and now see’s him elevated to being a member of the Trick Star Pro Team. He beat Australia’s only Female Freestyle Footballer Adelaide’s Susan Sohar who in the next few years is set to take the world by storm.
