Outline to start freestyling and general tips
« on: Jul 22, 2010, 04:55: PM »
Here's an easy guide to start freestyling. Please note, nothing in freestyle is set in stone; That said, all these are high recommendations to maximise control from the very beginning.

Lowers
-Juggle with both feet, 1 juggle per foot in a row
-Use shoes
-Be able to juggle at least 70-100 on first attempt
-Learn atw with both feet* and both directions(clockwise and anticlockwise)
-Learn hatw, htw and crossover with both feet*

Sits
-Juggle to with each feet
-50-70 on juggles on first attempt
-Learn crossovers, x-overs with both feet

Uppers
-Headstall
-Sideheadstall both sides
-Neckstall
-Shoulderstall with both shoulders

* Optional, but recommended

Here are some general tips:
-Set achievable goals for yourself. Eg, I can already do atw-atw, I'll go for atw-atw-htw.
-Train sits in the corner of a room. This will allow you to stop needing to get up and fetch the ball every time you stuff up.
-Train using reps to enhance your consistency. Eg, Try to land the same combo/move 5 times before moving on.
-Positive thinking is always good, it takes a lot of time to get be able to achieve even the simplest of combos.
-Keep yourself hydrated to maximise your training sessions. A small sip of water regularly keeps me hydrated.
-Stretching before and after will help you have less injuries and benefit your training sessions.
-If you are experiencing soreness, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_onset_muscle_soreness

EDIT:Just adding more information. I'll be doing this every time I remember something. If anyone else has extra information, please comment below.
Typos fixed.

yeah I too wish that I started with these tips
actually like 6 months ago, I kinda restarted my fs. I went back to the VERY basics (atw, htw, co, tb, footstall to neck stall etc... really basic shizzles)
my style actually improved a bit :)
for intermediate and beginner fsers, if you didn't start by mastering the basics and you are NOT satisfied with your style or the combos you do, there's no harm in starting over to improve your style

Wish I had those tips in the beginning when i started out.
Now i think I'm also in the phase of starting over on some tricks, especially sidehead both sides and ATW both feet and both directions. I'm ok at right head and feet, but sucks at left ones.

excellent tips! I think I'm going to go back and start practicing these things. I have too many weaknesses right now, can't do inside atws properly, no uppers, etc. So thanks a lot bro (:

I think HTWs are more important than ATWs. And of course, get some ATWs on your weak foot, it's very useful in the future, mainly in long combos =)

Does anyone mind if I sticky this? I think that it covers a lot of the questions in the beginner questions. It also gives you a good start for those that want to improve instead trial and error that most of the older freestylers have learnt by.
And any info that other freestylers have that I may have missed will be added.
What do you guys think?
