European Super League
« on: Aug 17, 2009, 10:36: PM »
Talk is rife of a european super league begining.

Arsen Wegner said it, Madrid President said it. and it was predicted by this soccer magazine written in 1998 that correctly predicted 5 other things.

What do you guys think?

i think it will totally kill off national leagues, but would be amazing to watch, imagine the champs league quarter finals every week

wow makes me druel

but ultimatley it would not be good for world Football

I don't think it will happen, the CL is good as it is. What the point of an exclusive super league that only includes certain teams regardless where they finish in their leagues.

ok, this is what i heard from real english football fans.

This european super cup won't be good for english football. In spain people don't car much about away games but in england they do, and imagine every week you have to go from one country to another, impossible to cope up with it.

Good post.

Not to mention that the CL is one of the biggest profit cash-machines soccer/football has to offer. It would get rather stagnant I would imagine; during the season, I look forward to the Champions League as a treat, and the CL final is something that is a collosal event-- equivalent to the Super Bowl in America. This move would be a huge blunder (in a business sense), and I think it would get dull after a few matches. It is almost as if Christmas/Hannukah/Other holidays would be every month, or even the World Cup being every year, overtime would lose its exlusiveness and excitement.

And would the fans from other countries such as Portugal who are used to seeing their dominate in their country appreciate seeing their team at the bottom of the table? Quick way to lose glory-hunters, leading to quick way to lose money and supporters

The idea seems great--for short term publicity and hype. But its longevity would be compromised and I can totally see it falling off. Also, other than the League Cup, what would other teams in other leagues be competing for? Think of the top 4 placement.

twould be absolutely ridiculous

waste of time, and effort but ultimately a huge profit from attendances and stuff
