Playing devil's advocate here, but: what has he even achieved? He succeeded in a sport.

It had to be said.

RIP, though
because he was a man who lived his life and died, nothing more

Ridiculous idea, what the fuck did Larkin achieve wrote some words on a page... completely stupid idea of being unsuccessful, because by that definition pretty much everybody is unsuccessful which is pretty damn depressing isn't it, because if it was easy and blase as you made it out to be every would be doing it.

Do any of you comprehend the idea of a devil's advocate?
It's giving the pessimistic side just so you have something else to consider.

If it makes you feel better to know, I think that achievement in sport, and especially in soccer/football is very important (because, in my poetry-centric viewpoint, many sports are a poetry of motion -- especially soccer)
If anything, it provides opportunity for those who might otherwise not be in a position to lead particularly satisfying lives due to bad socio-economic position, etc...

That said, RIP because he lived an accomplished life, not because he lived an accomplished life in football

see where I'm going?

already have them, in other words i don't understand what your saying, the only reason people notice him is ultimately because of what he did in sport

Look at my point generally
He's just a man like any other man
so measure his life on that scale, so to speak
and notice that he is pretty accomplished, that he lived a full life
that's all
the football part is less relevant because it's just a vessel

on the other hand, the means mean a hell of a lot more than the ends (for me, at least), so maybe what I'm saying is a load of shit?

So he achieved a lot more than other men or women in sport hence he has been respected when he died, i'm not sure if this agrees with your last section because i don't understand what you mean there.
