Who told you that? It should be 3-4 for these sort of combos. 3 should be the bare minimum, so always aim for 4.

to be fair the "palle trick" wasnt really ground,  just looked like htatw htw is all.

keep improving the basics though noah,  i know theres a temptation when youre starting out to try and learn cool hard tricks but it wont end up getting you anywhere in the long run for real improvement.
