Player Ratings: Roma 1-0 Fiorentina
Roma continued their renaissance with an entertaining victory over Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico. Goal.com rates the performers on show….

ROMA

Doni: 8.0- Made a world class stop from Mutu’s free kick in the second minute and then saved the day with a beautiful diving save right at the death. Superb.

Riise: 6.0- Starting to settle into the Italian capital and earned his paycheque with a decent performance today.

Juan: 7.0- Almost opened the scoring in the first minute of the match but might have gotten away with one when he took Gilardino down inside of the penalty area in the 66th minute.

Mexes: 7.0- The Frenchman was solid as a rock at the back tonight until a neck injury ended his afternoon.

Cassetti: 5.5- Gave the ball away much too often and gifted Mutu a scoring opportunity in the first half.

Brighi: 6.0- Has been a revelation in recent matches but was merely adequate this afternoon.

Taddei: 6.0- His poor passing almost led to a Montolivo goal in the first half but he atoned for his gaffe with the cross that set up Totti’s goal.

De Rossi: 7.0- Did a valiant job protecting the back four and neutralized Montolivo and Kuzmanovic today.

Baptista: 7.0- The Beast almost found the first goal of the match but was robbed by Frey who made an excellent one handed save. He then blasted a shot off the crossbar that would have killed the match off in the 81st minute.

Vucinic: 6.0- Was a real threat whenever he touched the ball in the first 45 minutes but lost steam in the second half.

Totti: 8.0- Hit the post in the 40th minute with a nice flick off De Rossi’s free kick and then finally found his deserved goal in the 59th with a blast from the top of the penalty area.

SUBS: Cicinho (65”) 6.0, Loria (75”) 6.0, Menez (89”) NA

FIORENTINA

Frey: 8.0- One of the best shot stoppers on the planet was on display tonight as he made one breathtaking save after another in a lost cause.

Vargas: 7.0- Did well coming forward and gave Cassetti more than he could handle on the left flank.

Kroldrup: 6.0- Made some vital blocks at the back but was caught out of position more than once this afternoon.

Gamberini: 7.0- Had to help out his partner in central defence on a couple of occasions and timed his tackles to perfection this afternoon.

Zauri: 5.5- The ex-Lazio man had trouble controlling the runs of Vucinic and will not be happy with his overall performance

Kuzmanovic: 5.5- Was invisible for long stretches of the match and was eventually substituted off in the second half.

Felipe Melo: 7.0- The Brazilian hard-man committed countless fouls and was a thorn in Roma’s side this afternoon and almost found the equaliser deep into injury time.

Montolivo: 6.5- The silky smooth midfielder took a while to get going today but grew stronger as the match wore on.

Santana: 6.0- Failed to create any scoring chances and was taken off early in the second half.

Mutu: 7.5- Great free kick in the second minute forced Doni into making a wonderful save and was the most dangerous Fiorentina player on the day.

Gilardino: 5.5- Not one of his best games today and was a non-factor, albeit one starved of service.

SUBS: Jovetic (61”) 6.5, Almiron (73”) 6.0, Pazzini (76”) 6.0

Player Ratings: Inter 2-1 Napoli
Inter defeated Napoli 2-1 at San Siro in Serie A this afternoon. Carlo Garganese looks at the players on show...

INTER

Julio Cesar - 6.0: Aside from picking the ball out of his goal once, did not have too many notable saves to make today. Always ready and alert though.

Maicon - 7.0: Superb in the first half, bombing forward and providing the assist for Muntari's goal. Pushed back by Mannini in the second half.

Cordoba - 7.5: The best of the Inter backline. Solid defensively, and capped off a fine afternoon with an excellent goal.

Samuel - 6.0: Struggled today at times against the physical Zalayeta and skilful Lavezzi. The latter left him for dead in the build-up to his goal, although he did deny the striker later on with a crucial tackle.

Maxwell - 6.0: Held his own against Maggio, although Maxwell was non-existent as an offensive force and rarely pushed past the half way line.

Zanetti - 6.5: A busy display from the Inter captain and legend, although he missed a great chance to kill the game five minutes from time.

Cambiasso - 7.0: Sat in front of the back four, and did an excellent job in closing the space that Hamsik thrives on when making his late runs into the box.

Muntari - 8.5: Is turning into an excellent summer signing. Created the first goal, scored the second himself, and had a fine game, winning tackles and driving forward.

Stankovic - 6.0: A quiet game from Stankovic, who could not repeat his outstanding efforts from against Juventus last week.

Cruz - 6.5: Led the line well, and executed a brilliant backheel in the build-up to Muntari's goal. Faded in the second half, and was replaced.

Ibrahimovic - 6.0: Not one of Ibrahimovic's best afternoons. Improved as the game went on, but not too many of his tricks and flicks came off.

Subs: Adriano 6.5, Burdisso 6.0, Jimenez N/A

NAPOLI

Iezzo - 7.0: Did not have too many saves to make tonight, although he did produce one excellent stop from Zanetti. Blameless on both goals he conceded.

Cannavaro - 6.5: Coped relatively well on the right of Napoli's defensive centre three, and was not troubled that often by Ibrahimovic. Gave the ball away carelessly to Zanetti though late on, and should have been punished.

Rinaudo - 7.0: A surprise starter ahead of Santacroce, but he was calm and assured in the centre of defence, and barely put a foot wrong.

Aronica - 5.0: The weak link of the Napoli defence this afternoon. Lost Cordoba for the first goal, was suspect on the second, and made a number of rash challenges.

Pazienza - 6.0: Quietly went about his work in the middle-of-the-park, but wasted possession on a few occasions.

Gargano - 7.5: Took a while to get going but, once he did, the Uruguayan delivered another impressive performance. Excellent in the second half, directing all of Napoli's moves.

Maggio - 6.0: Clocked up the miles down the right flank and, if anything won his match-up with Maxwell on points.

Mannini - 6.5: Had a tough time against Maicon in the first half, but turned the tables on the Brazilian after the interval and looked dangerous down the left.

Hamsik - 6.0: Did a lot of running and unselfish work in the middle-of-the-park, but did not stamp his usual authority on the game, and was substituted on 65 minutes.

Lavezzi - 8.0: Another exceptional performance from the young phenomoneon. If there proves to be a better goal in Serie A this weekend than the one he scored today, it will be one hell of a goal.

Zalayeta - 6.5: I once said that Zalayeta was the best in the world at backheels, and he proved my point today with a fantastic colpo di tacco for Lavezzi's goal. Gave Samuel an awkward time of things.

Subs: Blasi 6.0, Denis 6.0, Bogliacino N/A

Player Ratings: Sevilla 0-3 Barcelona
Barcelona ran out comfortable winners in the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Saturday evening and Goal.com was on hand to rate everyone on show....

SEVILLA

Palop 5.5 - Hard to criticise the 'keeper for any of the goals conceded except maybe the last one when he came racing off his line a bit too quickly.

Mosquera 5.0 - Did a decent enough job down the right going forward but gave Thierry Henry far too much space throughout the match. Lucky that the French striker was not as his best as he could easily have scored a couple with the time he was afforded by Mosquera.

Escude 5.5 - Not a bad game by any means but did back off the Barcelona strikers a little bit too much at times, allowing them too much time to shoot.

Squillaci 6.0 - Like his partner at the back he was solid all match and couldn't be blamed for any of the goals that Barcelona scored.

Navarro 6.0 - Didn't do too much wrong, despite the fact his side conceded three times. Always won the ball in the air and pressured the Barça strikers well when he needed to.

Adriano 7.5 - Until Messi popped up with his late show Adriano was arguably the best player on the pitch for either side. His runs down the wing were the best thing about Sevilla and without him they would have looked totally lifeless.

Maresca 5.5 - Battled hard in midfield but didn't really contribute much going forward and perhaps it was in the centre of the pitch where the match was lost for Sevilla.

Fazio 6.0 - Always put pressure on the ball and made some key tackles to prevent Barcelona from breaking onto the defence. Not a bad performance especially bearing in mind he was thrown in not having playing much.

De Mul 5.0 - Came in to replace Jesus Navas but was taken off early in the second half after failing to contribute anything to the game, shouldn't have started ahead of Capel.

Kanouté 5.0 - Worked hard but was very disappointing. Should have scored late on in the first-half to level the match when he had a chance from about six yards out but hit the bar.

Fabiano 3.0 - Lacklustre performance, capped off by a needless red card when the game was already lost for an elbow on Busquets. Might not have got the breaks tonight but didn't work that hard either and should have done better with some of the opportunities he did have.

Subs

Romaric 5.0 - Like last week he was very poor and it is no wonder that the coach opted to use Fazio in midfield ahead of him to start with.

Capel 5.0 - Probably should have started the game ahead of de Mul but did very little when he came on, except for roll around theatrically on the floor.

Renato 6.0 - No time to influence the game.

BARCELONA

Valdés 6.0 - Didn't have a save to make all game but dealt with the high balls comfortably enough throughout.

Alves 5.5 - Much was said pre-match about his battle with Adriano but there is no doubt the Sevilla man won it hands down. Alves couldn't go forward without him on his tail and at the back he lost out to his Brazilian friend on a few occasions.

Piqué 7.0 - Seems to be getting better and better and played tonight with great strength and determination to see off Kanouté and Fabiano. Made some key tackles and was a rock at the back for Barcelona.

Márquez 6.5 - Like his partner at the back he was strong, assured and for most of the game he was comfortable. Good performance from the Mexican.

Puyol 6.5 - Has been bursting forward in recent weeks but this evening he had to stay back to see of the threat of Adriano and he did reasonably well when called into action.

Xavi 7.0 - A typically solid display from the centre of the pitch which entailed not losing any balls and finding his team-mates whenever he had the chance. Is the heart-beart behind this Barça side and yet again did his work quietly but well.

Touré 6.5 - Like Xavi it was a typical no-nonsense showing from Touré that involved getting the ball and moving it on to team-mates in better positions, did well for his team.

Keita 6.0 - Much was written about his return but he did very little throughout the match and most of the midfield work was done by the other players.

Messi 8.0 - Tough performance to rate from the Argentine because for 60 minutes he did very little for his side. However, when the game became stretched he came to life and scored two brilliant goals. The first was a great half-volley to wrap up the three points and the second was a nice finish from a tight angle. Average 60 minutes or so but a wonderful last half-an-hour featuring some trademark runs.

Eto'o 7.0 - Scored the crucial first goal and what a goal it was. A real instinctive goal typical of Eto'o and whilst he didn't threaten Palop again he did work hard for his side.

Henry 6.5 - Got the ball in space on countless occasions but failed to make real use of it throughout the match. Turned Mosquera inside and out but he should have done more than fire at Palop each time.

Subs

Busquets 6.0 - Didn't do anything with the ball and in fact his only contribution was to be elbowed by Luis Fabiano.

Hleb 6.5 - Had about two touches of the ball in the short time he was on. The first bobbled out of play woefully but the second was a superb pass to set up Messi for the last goal.

Gujdohnsen 6.0 - No time to do anything.

Player Ratings: Chievo Verona 0-1 Roma
Jeremy Menez scored his first Serie A goal for Roma and what a strike it was too. A great game at the Bentegodi. Salvatore Landolina rates the players on show...

Player Ratings: Chievo Verona 0-1 Roma
galleria zoom

Chievo Verona

Sorrentino -7.5: The goalkeeper was called into action on a number of occasions and his two stops on Menez and Brighi were a la Buffon. He tipped a powerful close range drive around the post on the first and then minutes later he pulled off a miracle save from point blank range as he blocked the midfielder's effort on the line.

Moro -5.5: Moro was supposed to keep an eye on Menez which he did but in spells. He couldn't really deal with the Frenchman's pace and he failed to run with him for the goal. He completely lost his man which was a sign of poor defending.

Mandelli -6.0: The stopper played well on the night and his understanding and positional sense was of the highest level. However, he lacked a little confidence and looked uncertain when Roma launched counter attacks. He failed to pick up some of Totti's runs as well.

Yepes -6.0: A solid show at the back and he dealt with Roma's threats well. He lived dangerously and he was lucky not to concede a penalty in the first half when he hacked down Menez. However, he made up for that with some good tackles.

Mantovani -6.5: One of the teams better defenders. He was everywhere and he never stopped working. In the right place at he right time as he cleared Julio Baptista's shot off the line with a great intervention. A solid game from all aspects.

Luciano -5.0: The midfielder was average. At times even clumsy as he gave away possession and needless free kicks for being over ambitious. Not one of his better performances by any means.

Pinzi -5.5: Battled well in the middle of the park but he failed to offer much spark when going forward. He looked uncertain at times and he was replaced in the second half by his coach as his work declined.

Bentivoglio -6.5: The midfielder's main job was to rumble Baptista and he did so very well. He never lost the Brazilian and kept him shackled for most of the game. A very good display. Defended well and attacked too. Great passing and vision also.

Marcolini -5.5: The midfielder's passing let him down on the night. His back-pass almost gifted Menez the chance to score. He was sloppy at times even though he tried to get the ball rolling.

Esposito -6.5: The former Roma man said he had no regrets leaving the Giallorossi for Chievo earlier this week, however he will regret missing a number of first half chances. To his credit, he did press well and his constant hustling down the left almost paid off.

Pellissier -6.0: The striker failed to get going. He didn't offer much up top. His run and cross for Esposito was, perhaps, his moment of glory. He worked well but he just couldn't penetrate the Roma back line.

Subs: Iunco 5.0, Langella 5.5

Roma

Doni -7.0: The Brazilian has a fairly quiet game but he was called into action and dealt with it well. His double save from Esposito in the first half was top notch as he saved his side's skin. A good overal performance and he always looked comforatble.

Cicinho -6.5: The right-back was always on hand to help clear the danger and his running didn't seem to stop for the whole game. He got up and down well and created some openings but some of his crosses were less than perfect.

Mexes -6.5: The Frenchman had a quiet game overall but he did pop up here and there and he was a little unlucky not to have scored when he latched onto Menez's free kick.

Juan -6.0: The Brazilian stopper is Roma's unsung hero. A fairly quiet game overall but he was always on hand to help at the back and his clearances from corners and reading of the play was spot on.

Riise -6.5: Riise showed some great form on the left and made good runs down the wing. He was up and down with high frequency. He also tested Sorrentino's hands with a thuderous free kick. Slowly but surely he is getting back to his best.

Perrotta -6.0: The Italian international was good but at times some sloppy passing was his down fall. He battled well in the middle and his presence was there for all to see but he could have done better when moving the ball around. Some faster passing and a little more intensity would have been good. His second half volley was decent.

De Rossi -6.5: A relatively poor first half but came to life in the second. His header laid the ball on a plate for Menez to score. His shooting wasn't so great though- wild and the words hit and hope come to mind.

Brighi -4.5: Brighi enjoyed a mixed game and the words good bad and ugly some up his night in Verona. Nice work rate and passing, a very poor miss and two nasty tackles were the highlights of his match. He was left red faced when he was booked twice for two different challenges.

Menez -8.5: The hit-man has come under heavy criticism recently but the skeptics will have changed their opinion on his first half showing alone. He was one of the Giallorossi's best players and my man of the match. He showed great skill and pace and was a constant threat down the wing. His great run and turn had Brighi in for a sitter but the midfielder missed. A volley a la Van Basten saw him score his first Serie A goal as well as give his side maximum points.

Baptista -5.5: A less than perfect display by the hit-man. He failed to live up to expectation. He kept on getting caught in positions which made it easy to be shackled. Bentivoglio was all over him and the Chievo man won the battle.

Totti -6.5: Roma are a different team when he plays and he kept on pulling the strings. Like De Rossi, a slightly poor showing in the first but gradually made up for it as the game went on. Excellent vision and technique.

Subs: Cassetti N/A, Taddei 6.0.
