i think the biggest thing with santos is that they want to retain neymar and ganso for the club world cup.

the brazilian serie a isn't really the worst league in the world. if anything, it'll keep them 2-3 extra years from their early, discoteca-fueled decline.

ganso is good, really good. he is one of those players that needs a touch and .5s to split a defense in half.

didn't have the greatest copa america. not that he played poorly, he just had a hard time really working himself into the game and was invisible at times. his positioning was off, and you could probably blame his lay-off due to injury for that.

when he found the ball, he was magic

There is no flair in the midfield and no creativity.

I'm sure that identity will be revealed further once/if Neymar joins with Chelsea/Madrid/Barcelona.

i was thinking to myself, "brazil should recall ronaldinho for qualifying." then, i realized that brazil has already qualified. w/the same players, they will be an entirely different team in a year.

Brek Shea is the fucking man

a year ago, almost everyone, including myself, thought that it was going to be center back, or bust, for him to ever succeed in a top four league. he had a pretty terrible game against colombia, and the entire usnt fan base knee-jerked into retardation. he has been a revelation in mls and was a revelation yesterday. i hate cross-sports comparisons, but he is like lebron james in that he moves like, and has the skill-set of, someone much smaller. he has always had that, but he might be able to work out as an attacking player at the highest level.

How about Donovan looking like an olympic sprinter?

he has always looked like that as a second striker, especially against mexico.

Brazil is average

brazil is a team that is searching for an identity. the inclusion of ralf and fernandinho yesterday did not help. there was no cohesion in the midfield. brazil's idea of midfield play yesterday was ramires picking up the ball and sprinting 50 yds.

the attacking play was good, and very fluid at times.

alves and andre santos were terrible.

I only saw the second half.  Towards the end, US really picked things up and put some nice passes together. How the ref kept his red in the pocket was beyond me.

i am not usually a huge fan of unnecessarily enthusiastic people, but juergen klinsmann's enthusiasm is genuinely infectious.

clarence goodson and timothy chandler have pulled out of the usa squad for various reasons. javier hernandez and clint dempsey are not playing. fairly strong squads for both teams, though klinsmann has called in a ton of far-outliers after the first 11.

What's up with those riots anyways?

not particularly informed, but i believe that this is the simple version of it: started with a protest over a specific incident (cop shooting alleged criminal). it has spiraled out of control w/rioters just generally disillusioned with everything.

joey barton has been offering fairly entertaining commentary through his twitter. of course, it won't allow you to understand the riots any better.

What ya'll think about Klinsman taking over.

pretty neutral. i'm not incredibly optimistic. it's easier to avoid disappointment that way.

this interview has me more excited

ETA: i was also firmly outside of the, "i hate bob bradley camp." so, i think that that has tempered my expectations, but i also think that it was a good time for a change.

Cantona is prepared to build a world class team from the ground up; and he thinks he can do it in 20 years

just words. if you held him to it, this would go over about as well as the bank run that he orchestrated.

did he say, "ground up?"

it does need to make improvements more quickly, because the top leagues in the world have young, local players that are developing fast as fuck

you could have said the same thing at its inception. the gap has closed, not that it is important for mls to become a top league. mls needs to remain solvent and produce players

Does anyone have any suggestions on healthy fast food?  I don't bother cooking myself much so I need some healthy places to go and eat.

wendy's chili. taco bell's fresco options. i've heard about chipotle, and that could be alright. most fast food restaurants, especially mcdonalds, have gotten better calorically in the past few years.

it's easier to cook for healthy food, and it's even easier to find good, local places.

i could give you some easy recipes/ideas, and elite could give you a few, as well, provided that he posts again before he has no time.
