I think you have to consider that the circumstances substantially changed from 5 years ago to now:

- Back then, there were much less freestylers, and with no or just a few others in the area, eager to talk about freestyle and a forum is perfect to unite them.

But today, most freestylers made some friends and talk to them, with no need to include others in their discussions, why would they? What could a noob contribute?.

- Also the level was much worse, what allowed other people to keep up, and becoming the best freestyler in your country was a realistic goal.

But today, you Elias say, noobs just want to learn tricks to impress their friends with no dedication to freestyle. But what should their goal be? Becoming the best in the country and win RBSS in their country is impossible for most countries, and with being one out of very many, it is hard to get recognition of other freestylers. Before my old youtube channel was deleted in 2009, my freestyle videos would easily reach 10'000 views after a few months, one even had 400'000 views. Today, nobody cares really.

Freestyle Chat / Re: Definition of Freestyle Football

The difference is you have said that in your original post, you mentioned the necessity of doing tricks with a football. I don't think tricks necessarily have to be involved to be "freestyling". Tricks are just something fun to do when freestyle. If tricks are a necessity, I'd consider it football tricking, not freestyle.

I agree with your 2nd paragraph here. I word for word agree with that. I even agree with the part about the hands. It's just not something I personally enjoy training or viewing.

On agreeing with your 1st paragraph and the banana reference, there is one major difference. If the banana trick is the only trick you can do with a football, of courses you are not a football freestyler. However, if this person can actually do a few things, no matter how bad they are, they could be consider a football freestyler. They would just be a very bad one. The most basic of football freestylers just make videos of step overs and shit from what I've seen on youtube. Now, they are definitely low level, but still freestylers. There shouldn't be a standard for what a freestyler is other than they are freely doing what they like.

And no, I don't like to disagree. Some people just find it shocking that others might have a different opinion. Not really sure why. This would be a very boring place is we all just agreed. Now, at least we are talking.

I'm not shocked by other opinions, but i find it weird when you write "I disagree with just about everything" when in essence you pretty much agree.

I don't agree however what you said here in the 2nd last paragraph: Being able to pull off the banana trick doesn't get you closer to being a football freestyler, also adding other tricks - where the ball is not a core part of the trick and can therefore not being considered as a freestyle football trick - to your repertoire does not. If for example you can do some flips from a springboard, and you can also do them with the ball between your knees, you are still not a football freestyler.

The "few things" the person can do have do be considered as tricks /things that can be classified as freestyle football tricks/things.

Defining what a "trick" is is quite hard. I don't know if i would consider kicking the ball 5m up and then keep juggling without letting it drop a "trick", but that counts as a "freestyle football thing" that gets you closer to being a football freestyler.

Also keep in mind that English is not my mother language and therefore i wrote "trick" sometimes when maybe another word which i don't have in mind would have been better suited.

I disagree with just about everything in this except the banana reference. However, with some of the loose opinions on use of hands, it could be incorporated into freestyle. I personally think the use of hands not being permitted is acceptable as it's "football"freestyle. However, tricks don't make it freestyle. There are some cool things you can do with  a football I wouldn't necessarily consider tricks. Just cool ways to kick, juggle, or control the ball.

One other thing, most people have this mindset a freestyler is typically one person doing tricks with a football. I personally would love to see more duo or even larger group freestyle that isn't based on the individual's tricks, but more how the group or duo can creatively play the ball in whatever way the like.

Of course tricks are great, but that's not the point.

An easy way to look at this, if you look at any other sport that has a "freestyle" you literally can do whatever you like. There are not any requirements. There are just popular styles. Freestyle football should be no different.

I find it weird discussing with you, because you seem to like to disagree. If you agree with the banana part, you also agree with my first paragraph, because the banana part proves the statements made in the first part.

I interpret the term "freestyle" in freestyle football as you're being free from having to play football efficiently and it's not about having to score goals. You can just do play with the ball in a way you consider beautiful / creative / spectacular. I aswell don't think hands should be used, but the use of hands could be justified with a more open interpretation of not being obliged to the rules of football (where one rule is not to use your hands).

I'm so tired of this "it's free-style, so you are free to do what you want" argument, because it's just wrong. Of course, you can do what you want, but that doesn't mean you can call yourself a freestyle footballer. There is a borderline what can be considered freestyle football and what not. People certainly have different opinions about where to set this borderline.

I mean if someone is holding a football in his hands and is eating a banana while only touching the banana with the football, he is basically doing a trick involving a football; but we hopefully can agree that this does not count as freestyle football.

For me, freestyle football is about doing tricks with a football, where the ball is in the center of action. For example, doing a backflip with the ball caught between the knees does not count as freestyle football; but kicking the ball up, doing a backflip and catching the ball in midair does count as freestyle football. In other words, the football needs a purpose in a trick.

I just thought it would be rather depressing if you announce that you're back and no one here cares at all. Maybe we have never talked to each other, but I do remember your username.

i hope you enjoy the skills that remained. If that's the case keep enjoying it. For me, freestyle does not have to be training you ass off all day and then quit at some point and never freestyle again.

PS: this forum is so dead that posting here is like shouting out into the dark (or like keeping your own diary, I find that picture pretty accurate :D ). Still, I thought it would be kind responding to you since i appreciate what your doing. Otherwise there would have been a good chance that no one commented here at all.

it's Spam obviously. Hattrick is quite a famous online football manager game, i've been playing it for many years but it gets a little bit boring after a while.

So obviously they want to get new players in...

Freestyle Chat / Re: Freestyle Schools ?
« on: Feb 01, 2013, 09:03: PM »
If you see freestyle as a sport and your main goal is to become good, I don't see a reason why you shouldn't join a fs school. And the Russian attitude is the most extreme towards sport.

Personally I would not join and also not recommend a freestyle school, because that's not the point of freestyle for me. Getting a few tips like once in a while, that's ok, but I'd already feel like a robot if I were to execute Lehas tutorials step by step.

Freestyle Chat / Re: What took you the longest time to relearn?
« on: Feb 01, 2013, 03:51: AM »
i think if you were able to do a (lower) trick several times it will be very easy to relearn, at least at a rather low skill level.
What concerns me i have never really "started" freestyle in the way that i was training mulitple hours per week, and i also never quit, but when i occasionally freestyle i can relearn tricks quite well.

But there is probably a difference when it comes to harder tricks, where you have to get your muscles used to the quick movement again, or also for long combos, where you need consistent good touches and stamina as well, what you can't just relearn like that.

I guess that's why you find it easier to do 3 latws than long combos.
