Biggie, but not much else.  Tupac somewhat as well.

Old school in current times is my style though... Common, Talib, Masta Ace, etc.

I like how J. Cole doesn't come from the typical rap background.  The kid went to school and paid for his school loans.

Something like a pimp because I'm still with the caine'
Unh, a little drug dealer reference what, I can't try
These niggas out here lying, why can't I

I like the above line.

Not bad, but I'm not into foreign rap although some French rappers are quite good.

P.S. This is getting merged with the Hip Hop thread.

New Drake album dropped Tuesday - Take Care.

Average from what I can tell so far.  J Cole has it beat by a 100 times, but I bet he won't sell 10% of what Drake will.

Before I get into an arguement, do tell me what rappers you like and the reasons you like them.

Tupac: - Obviously by my name haha, because he raps about things that are relevant to his and many others lives. His rap wasn't about trying to be a thug, his rap was about him being a thug and trying to get out of it. He sang about struggling and doing what he had to do to get through. He also maintains a consistent flow - was never autotuned - He puts MASSIVE amounts of emotion into his music. He was real. He made one of the biggest impacts on rap industry. He had good melody, lyrics, clear original ideas, etc. Look at any of his lyrics and there's always some deep underlying message that pertains to struggling or trying to get to a better place. He was also a poet, I have a book with all his pieces in it.

Eminem: Was good in the beginning, sorta lost his charsima over time. Good for the same reasons Tupac was good, had a lot of emotion in his songs, was real, represented a struggling person doing what they have to do in order to attain a better life. Not autotuned.

Drake: Autotuned to hell, raps about absolutely nothing. I don't even think you can call it "rap" because he has NO flow. I don't care what anyone says, I think in order to rap you have to have some type of flow to your music. Literally I can talk faster than he raps. He reminds me of a poser. He's like a rich kid that's trying to impress thugs. He has some good metaphores in his songs like "we walk the same path but got on different shoes" - but since he says it soooooooo slow it loses it's punch, and the amount of shitty ones make the good ones look like crap.

The absolute main reason I hate him is because he has ABSOLUTELY NO FLOW. I can't stand that. It bothers me to know end. I really think anyone can make his music because he is AUTOTUNED. I'm positive I can write a shitty song with absolutely no rhyme scheme too and as long as someones autotunes me it'll sound "good." I think I might be living in the 90's when rap was good, I don't think I'll ever adjust to this new age of rap music.

....

I got no real arguements against your choice of music.  Everyone likes their own type of rap.  I don't understand why you gotta bash Drake and Lupe though.  Just as you like the fast flow, others like the slow and unique flows.  I like Drake because he's different.  His lyrics are already... sometimes he tries too hard, but the flow is nice if you ask me.  It's different than the usual fast flows you hear.  I used to love fast rappers but now I'm tired of them.  It just gets old.  You learn to appreciate lyrics and unique flows after a while.  The sound of the voice also becomes important.  I hate Eminem's whiney voice.  It's too annoying and he sounds the same in most songs.  Always raps about the same type of crap as well.

Lupe has it all.  He's the best lyricist out right now.  Nobody comes up with better lines than him.  I also like Common, Masta Ace, and Wiz Khalifa right now.  They all have a unique sound.  Wiz doesn't have great lyrics but his sound is nice.  You can argue what your ear likes.
