There is a petition going around that's addressed to Monta Streetsoccer and Red Bull.
The mission of this petition is to protect the interests of freestyle football and the freestylers who participate in the Red Bull Street Style competition.
What we want is for Monta to work closely with freestylers on developing a new ball for the forthcoming Red Bull Street Style competition that will take place in 2012.
This is important because the quality and performance of the current ball being used for this competition is unsatisfactory, was developed without even consulting the freestylers and has been subjected to a lot of criticism by the freestylers themselves.
Help out the freestyle football scene by signing this petition and sharing it with others!
Below is the list of competitors so far. We have freestylers of all levels competing with some of the best also taking part. Anyone can join.
Current participants (list is growing):
Jamie Knight Conor Reynolds Reece Sargent Palgi Royal Freakiness Daniel Dennehy Samfs Sven Fielitz Patrick Edwards Batr Mauri Mickey Niko Karcio Omar7 Andrew Mozhenov Adrian Krogseter Skalle StefFS Gufreestyle96 Denisfs Tokitofs Gabrielfs Enisfs AhemmerFS Brynjar Brian Thomas VDD Andrew Henderson Zegan
The Official 2011 Beyond Football Competition will begin soon. Prizes have now been arranged as have the judges.
The prize will be a Pele Sports package with a tshirt, shorts, shoes and a ball + Oli Cherek's DVD + Skora's DVD + more to come.
There will be 5 judges: 1) Max Meyer 2) Miran Pirner 3) Daniel Rooseboom 4) Petike 5) Now confirmed - MIRKO!
This is how it willl work: there will be 5 categories in which each of the judges will mark each competitor out of 10. So each competitor will have a final mark out of 250. After round 1, 32 can go through and then 16 etc...
Deadlines and rules will be set after the Prague meeting which is coming up in one week. We will most likely start the competition in 2 weeks.
Per Daniel Dennehy, Red Bull have finalized their decision for Street Style 2012, the world final will be in an "epic and amazing location" according to one of the organizers.
They said next month everything will be announced. There is a rumor it will be in the Colliseum in Rome... stay tuned!
Given the passion, emotion and, at times, justifiable disappointment, Copa Freestyle felt it is time to address many of your questions, comments and concerns regarding The Copa Challenge – the industry’s first and truly global online contest (with visitors from 115 countries).
Basically and through no fault of our own, our world-class techies have discovered that there may have been tampering with the voting system by creating ‘proxy’ email accounts, which were potentially used to increase the voting count on several entries. In addition, we have also noticed that on numerous occasions certain voters have given contestants the lowest possible score in order to lower their overall average.
To be fair to everyone, we are not 100 percent certain but there is enough evidence and data that we, as the Contest Manager, must take corrective measures in order to ensure complete and utter fair play for everyone’s benefit. Therefore we have decided to do the following:
Whether you are just beginning to freestyle or have been involved with football freestyle for years, these tips can help. This is an easy guide to start and learn football freestyle. Please note, nothing in freestyle soccer is set in stone. That being said, all these are high recommendations to maximize control from the very beginning in order to make learning freestyle soccer easier.
Lowers: - Juggle with both feet, 1 juggle per foot in a row - Use shoes - Be able to juggle at least 70-100 on first attempt - Learn atw with both feet* and both directions(clockwise and anticlockwise) - Learn hatw, htw and crossover with both feet*
Sits: - Juggle to with each feet - 50-70 on juggles on first attempt - Learn crossovers, x-overs with both feet
Uppers: - Headstall - Sideheadstall both sides - Neckstall - Shoulderstall with both shoulders
Optional, but recommended general tips: - Set achievable goals for yourself. Eg, I can already do atw-atw, I'll go for atw-atw-htw. - Train sits in the corner of a room. This will allow you to stop needing to get up and fetch the ball every time you stuff up. - Train using reps to enhance your consistency. Eg, Try to land the same combo/move 5 times before moving on. - Positive thinking is always good, it take alot of time to get be able to achieve even the simplest of combos. - Keep yourself hydrated to maximise your training sessions. A small sip of water regularly keeps me hydrated. - Stretching before and after will help you have less injuries and benefit your training sessions.
There are hundreds of freestyle football tricks. Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with all of them, so we have created a list of the most popular freestyle soccer tricks. We have them separated by difficulty and have included the names of the tricks, descriptions, and even videos to all of them.
Easy tricks up first
Around the world A complete revolution around the ball using your foot. As you are juggling, hit the ball with either the inside or outside of the foot (depending on which way you are going around the ball) to give it a bit of a spin. Your foot should make a complete revolution around the ball and come back under the ball to continue juggling. It is perhaps one of the most basic freestyle tricks. Practice is the key. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCnOXI_JqnU
Hop the world A touch with one foot, and the opposite foot goes around the ball outside to inside and comes around and under to touch the ball, and to continue juggling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNEMqLF6910
Crossover A simple but nice looking move. You jump up and swing one leg around the ball while having a trailing leg underneath that leg which kicks the ball up from under the leg you swung around the ball with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W50kBm4-yUE&feature=related
Toe bounce The ball is allowed to drop to your standing foot. The other leg swings around over the ball as the ball bounces off the standing foot and comes back up again. Swinging your leg outside to inside is the most common and generally the easier way to perform this trick, however, you can also perform a toe bounce with your leg swinging over the ball inside to outside. Balance is the key. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7RbasBj0JI
Headstall Balance the ball on your head roughly where the hairline should be*Practise!!* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_BXiZW2-tk
Rainbow Catch the ball between your feet. One foot (usually the dominant one) rolls the ball up your support leg. Then, with your support leg, bring the backheel up and flick the ball up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhM3ekpl2go
Pildriver From footstall (or juggle), the ball is lifted and slammed against the floor using the shin. This can be used in a combo going into any move such as atw, crossover, TATW etc. The move can also be performed with both legs alternatively as shown in the gif.] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96V5Vn1eRZw&feature=related (Right at the beginning)
Dislocated knee Bring your leg up. The ball makes contact with the knee but you also kick out with your foot and the ball kind of pops up from your knee as you pull your foot back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9dqcH3VJ8U (Ecuabol does a dislocated knee at 2:26)
Footstall Rest the ball on your foot. The move can be done much easier if you point your toes upwards so you clamp the ball between your foot and your shin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9dqcH3VJ8U (Ecuabol does a footstall at 2:24)
Hotstepper Pound the ball to the ground continuously using the soles of both feet alternatively. It is just as if you would be dribbling a basketball with your hands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YULnUvy67OA (Siracua does several hotsteppers at 0:06)
Shoulderstall There is a groove on your shoulder between your back/neck muscles and collarbone where the ball can rest. However, there are two ways to perform a shoulderstall. One is where you have the ball out in front of you very much similar to a cheststall, and the other is where the ball is out to your side and you are also using the side of your head to hold the ball still. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnXIy4eK8so
Hamstring stall Catch the ball between your heel or the back of your leg, and your ass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueJwSy0FlMA (Fahmy does a hamstring stall at 0:04)
Between Knee Catch (Follow the same technique for between feet catch) Catch the ball between your legs, about at the height where your knees are. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CrO82dR1RQ (Cristiano Ronaldo does a between knee catch at 0:36)
Intermediate moves
Around the moon From a neckstall, slightly flick the ball up using your shoulders. Make a complete revolution around the ball with your head and come back around and under the ball to catch it on your neck again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQZEBQmfSJE
Neck hop the world From a neckstall, you slide the ball from off your neck to the side of you while, without a touch, making a revolution around the ball with your leg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SRxRgN4jM0 Buska does a nhtw at 0:26)
Henry flick up This move must be split into two parts. First, brush the edge of the ball with your heel planting your foot in front it. This should cause the ball to flick up and rebound off the top of your heel. After waiting for the ball to rebound adequately, swing back with the same foot and strike it upward. If you execute the second movement too early, the ball will fly behind instead of over you head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLUBwUN15oI&feature=related (Henry does his flick up at exactly 0:29)
360 Have the ball in a neckstall. From there, swing your upperbody around to bring the ball to a cheststall. Then, get the ball into a neckstall again. The ball follows your upperbody around 360 degrees, hence the name. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOGvI3KnR80
In the ditch From neck stall, the ball is touched backwards with the head so that it rests in the middle of your back where there is a ridge which explains the name - in the ditch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6fFHjRiKnQ (Dan magness does a in the ditch at 2:30)
Bambini from juggling the ball is caught under the t-shirt and hit round using the fist quickly. The ball should spin round your back and fall out of the t-shirt at the front of the body ready to carry on juggling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxL6I-IoK8M (At 3:11 a bambini is completed)
Khtw Just like a htw trick but first you hit the ball up with the knee and then make the other leg come around the ball. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lawbYqLJRY
Nix atw Just like a normal atw but the trick is executed with a touch of the heel and then your leg comes around the ball. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nBD2QSg0lM
Side headstall Balance the ball on the side of your head. Somewhere around the temple you should feel a little groove where the ball could easily be placed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oudBQZqcXA
Nosestall Balance the ball in the area between your eyes, and on the bridge of your nose. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsEVWQLj2yI
Reverse toe bounce Just like a toe bounce but in the opposite direction. Kick the ball up to the outside of you. The foot you will bounce the ball on would come around from underneath the other leg to meet the ball. As the ball makes contact with that foot and you lift your toes to fling it up, your other leg will go over the ball in an inside to outside direction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcmY1Dk2g0M
Head juggles Juggle the ball with your head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq1IDDF_wx0 (Abbas does head juggles at 1:01)
Heel spin With your leg coming from behind and around your body, touch the ball up with your heel. Spin around and collect the ball to continue juggling, or go into another move as a combo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq1IDDF_wx0 (Steven does a heel spin at 0:19)
The clock Consecutive ATW's.*Put extra spin in each atw! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn-sFmLyQwg
Tatsulow head trick Kick the ball really high in the air. As it comes down jump over the ball so the ball falls and bounces on the ground in between your legs and comes up behind you. Lean back quickly to meet the ball bouncing up with the back of your head, to pound it down to the ground. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1D5iLe_rDc&feature=related (Tatsulow does his head trick just at 1:37)
Next up advanced tricks
Touzani around the world A more advanced form of the around the world. As you are in the middle of the atw trick, make a slight jump and swing your other foot around as you knock the ball from under that leg. Timing of the jump is the key to mastering this trick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oshQXMkFZxg
Hopping/Homie Touzani Around the World It is almost the same as the tatw trick except there is no touch in the middle of the trick. The trick is performed with the first leg going around like a atw but from the jump you immediately proceed in throwing the other leg around the ball without hitting it up from underneath with the first leg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnKilUothU8
Knee touzani around the world Almost the same as tatw except with tatw it is almost atw no touch crossover combo while with ktatw the trick is performed with a knee atw first. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOpf4OdaWPY
Abbas around the world A trick pioneered by Abbas Farid. It is a complete rewind of the trick tatw. Your first leg hits the ball up. Your other leg goes around the ball inside to outside. Then, you make a jump in which your first leg follows with an atw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVvH1oXFsHk
Lemmens around the world A sort of double around the world. You touch the ball to start the around the world trick and move your foot around the ball twice (720 degrees) before making contact with the ball again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yn_SI2wuFA (At 0:29 Ecuabol does a inside latw and an outside latw)
Mitchy around the world Mitch gave me these blessing steps to matw over youtube 1. Kick the ball up with your right foot. 2. Do an ATW (anti-clockwise) high up in the air with your right foot - almost at the same time lift up your left foot. Your two feet should eventually be off the ground. 3. As soon as you do the ATW (anti-clockwise) in the air your left leg/foot should pass OVER the ball whilst in the air. 4. Land on your right foot - but control the ball with your left. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2kI7mIoBXU
Hopping mitchy around the world Just like a MATW but the touch in the middle of the trick is exclude. Almost like HT-ATW also but the starting atw is in the inside direction rather than the outside direction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfkNkP-2VMo
Knee mitchy around the world It is a MATW but an inside direction knee atw is used to initiate the trick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMYnRqy9EwI
Alternate touzani around the world You first hit the ball straight up. With the other leg you make an inside to outside rotation around the ball. At the same time you make a jump and swing the other leg around the ball and kick the ball up from underneath that leg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GpqoidMC3U
Jay around the world A move pioneered by Palle originally but since he didn't want a move named after himself he decided to name it after a friend, Jay Ransome from England. It is a tatw but in the end instead of making an inside direction revolution with the other leg, an outside direction revolution is done. A quite awkward move if you have never tried before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvtXjHHfgXU
New shit A combination move involving the toe bounce, a backheel flick with a spin, and after you have swung around with the spin, a no touch hop the world. Pioneered by Soufiane Touzani in his "Deel Drie". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdufEiej5XM
Timo around the world Touch the ball with your dominant foot. Your non-dominant foot will make an inside to outside rotation around the ball as the ball falls straight back on the dominant foot. And then a tatw is completed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YxRk_k2Ihc&feature=related
Sole juggles Stall the ball on the sole of your foot while lying down flat on your back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61aUAuL1BEI
Gerbashi Breakdancing Have the ball in a footstall. Now clamp the ball down real hard and make sure you have a good feel for the ball. Now get down on the ground and start breakdancing, serious! It appears as if the ball is "glued" to your foot and if you have good dance moves like Gerbeshi (the dance instructor) it can look VERY stylish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_Vj4LKh69g (About 0:51 Leiki Does Start This)
Professional Tricks
Knee alternative touzani around the world Almost the same as KTATW but the first touch with the knee is performed with the opposite knee instead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa6wktQUyP0
Alternative hopping/homie mitchy around the world A very difficult and advanced trick. It is a HM-ATW but the starting touch is with the opposite foot. Your first foot touches the ball up. With a jump, your other foot makes a rotation around the ball in the inside direction. Without an extra touch, your first foot also makes an inside direction rotation around the ball before touching the ball with your first foot again. Best explained by viewing the animated image. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x87nmE9LTzg
Knee alternative mitchy around the world A very advanced trick. A knee htw is used to initiate the trick with the other leg going over the ball in the end after the knee htw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXw1O0HB66Y
Reverse hopping jay around the world First an inside direction atw is done in the first part of the trick. Then, with a jump, without hitting it again with the same foot, the other foot goes around the ball in an outside direction and touches the ball. http://www.vimeo.com/134892
Neck alternative mitchy around the world From a neckstall, you slide the ball from off your neck to your side. Then, an AMATW is performed directly without an extra touch from your other foot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssFq5mOym00
Palle around the world also called "the triple" - just like a lemmens around the world but instead of going around the ball twice before touching it again, you go around the ball three times. A very difficult and complex move to perform and only performed so far by a few elite freestylers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=golBYGyHF3A
Alternative lemmens around the world It is just like the htw trick but instead of the other leg making a revolution once, it will go around twice without another touch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLkrfzp-pZY
Lemmens touzani around the world Start the maneuver as you would any other LATW. When the second rotation around the ball is almost complete, make a jump and throw your other leg around the ball just as you would a tatw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOXPnu4z8-k
Lemmens mitchy around the world It is the same as above but with the LATW starting in the opposite direction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igFbYwH-8N4
Maradona toe stall A trick pioneered by Maradona. others have tried and completed the maneuver, but not totally successfully (couldn't hold it for long). Basically, hold your foot out and point your toes up. Balance the ball on your toes. Since there is so little a surface area to use, the trick is very difficult.*John farnworth has http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2arGacd2e0 (John farnworth does a great toe stall at 1:23) Tatsulow heel stall Pioneered by Tatsulow of Japan. Hold your leg out with your toes pointed down to the ground and heel pointed straight up. Balance the ball on your heel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QAl21QNR24 (53 seconds in and 57 seconds Both variations)

While the Copa Challenge is open to entrants until May 31st, it is important to note that freestylers need to submit their videos as soon as possible. The total vote is all that matters for the $10,000 prize. The sooner you upload your video to www.copachallenge.com the better your chances will be to win. If you wait until the last few weeks, you will not have a great chance of winning. So far, around 40 videos have been submitted and nobody is a clear winner yet.
If you want your chance to win, simply register and upload your video to www.copachallenge.com today. Then, tell all your friends on Beyond Football and Facebook to vote for your video on the website.
As most things in freestyle, live performances too are looked at differently from one freestyler to another. Each freestyle and fan has their own unique taste and preference. In my own opinion, a perfect live performance (LP) is when you are capable of showing your best skills in a flawless and perfect flow.
The goal is to give the crowd a breathtaking view of freestyle by showing how much fun it can be, showing transitions sits, lowers, uppers, and in some cases even ground moves. The goal is not to bore the crowd with ATWs only, but to show them a variety of different moves. A perfect example of this is John Farnworth who is a great performer because he brings the old school tricks and transitions (Mr. Woo) and combines them with some new school moves. To be specific, here is an example:
Another freestyle we can use as an example is Sean. Sean is certainly a different kind of freestyler having essentially created his own path in freestyle performance. His new form of freestyle includes more of a brake ball style, brake dance, block combos, and much more. It can be fun for the audience but we as freestylers sometimes question whether his performances are football freestyle or something else.
Nonetheless, his style is well respected and showcases another side of the sport, which certainly isn't always about hard core combos.
Most would make the assumption that I would immediately crown Turlakov the "True Master of Uppers." Had this been a couple months ago, I would have capered to my bias feelings. Does this mean Luki is the "True Master of Upper?" When Turlakov released his video "Hardcore Upper Tricks Pt. 2" it shocked the entire freestyle community off the shear ambidexterity this kid possessed. If you look at the aberration of skill level from his previous "Hardcore Upper Tricks Pt. 1," part 1 doesn't seem so hardcore anymore. The same can be said for Luki. In his video "Jak Taka Ryba," the upper combo at 0:50 was mind blowing. The fluent flow of Luki's combo seemed to make the ball float across his body.
It's easily stated that they are both highly skilled in upper, but I believe they are disciplined in two separate types of upper. With that being said, Luki has been trained in "Body Trick Style" while Turlakov has been trained in "Roller-Coaster Style." Let's go into debth and compare these two sensational freestylers.
Just as we were writing about the recent decline of hardcore freestyle, G3rman releases his new video - Winter Stuff - to put hardcore freestyle back into the spotlight. The video has shocked many freestyle fans and has given new inspiration to those striving to be the next best in hardcore freestyle. Winter Stuff includes all lowers and really shows how drastically G3rman has improved his skill in the last couple of months. G3rman is now arguably one of the top hardcore freestylers.
I thought I would write a little about what, in my opinion, is going to happen with freestyle in the future. 2010 was the year with the most advances in lower air combos, but I believe they have now peaked and will only go downhill from here on out. The buzz over creativity and different styles is now much higher than that for air combos.
Dan, a Beyond Football forum admin, has been informed by a Red Bull Ireland representative that the headquarters of Red Bull has pulled the plug on the competition for 2011 due to the high costs that are associated with the event. Individual countries will most likely run all the qualifiers in early 2012, then have the World Finals in late 2012.
During the past number of years freestyle soccer and our community have grown globally and exponentially, and Copa Freestyle has created an online competition to discover new rising stars, new moves, and tricks that will amaze us all over again.
Beyond Football is looking for a few writers who can help keep the freestyle community informed. If you freestyle on a regular basis or are simply a fan of freestyle, please hit the "contact" button at the top. We would love to hear from you! Writers can comment on the latest competitions, share their opinions on specific videos and freestylers, write tutorials, or simply write something that's relevant to freestyle.
