Petition for New RBSS Freestyle Ball
Monday, 12 September 2011 19:04

There is a petition going around that's addressed to Monta Streetsoccer and Red Bull.

The mission of this petition is to protect the interests of freestyle football and the freestylers who participate in the Red Bull Street Style competition.

What we want is for Monta to work closely with freestylers on developing a new ball for the forthcoming Red Bull Street Style competition that will take place in 2012.

This is important because the quality and performance of the current ball being used for this competition is unsatisfactory, was developed without even consulting the freestylers and has been subjected to a lot of criticism by the freestylers themselves.

Help out the freestyle football scene by signing this petition and sharing it with others!

Copa Challenge Deadline Extension Announced
Saturday, 04 June 2011 20:01

Given the passion, emotion and, at times, justifiable disappointment, Copa Freestyle felt it is time to address many of your questions, comments and concerns regarding The Copa Challenge – the industry’s first and truly global online contest (with visitors from 115 countries).

Basically and through no fault of our own, our world-class techies have discovered that there may have been tampering with the voting system by creating ‘proxy’ email accounts, which were potentially used to increase the voting count on several entries. In addition, we have also noticed that on numerous occasions certain voters have given contestants the lowest possible score in order to lower their overall average.

To be fair to everyone, we are not 100 percent certain but there is enough evidence and data that we, as the Contest Manager, must take corrective measures in order to ensure complete and utter fair play for everyone’s benefit. Therefore we have decided to do the following:

Copa Challenge - Must upload videos ASAP!
Monday, 28 March 2011 11:20

While the Copa Challenge is open to entrants until May 31st, it is important to note that freestylers need to submit their videos as soon as possible.  The total vote is all that matters for the $10,000 prize.  The sooner you upload your video to www.copachallenge.com the better your chances will be to win.  If you wait until the last few weeks, you will not have a great chance of winning.  So far, around 40 videos have been submitted and nobody is a clear winner yet.

If you want your chance to win, simply register and upload your video to www.copachallenge.com today.  Then, tell all your friends on Beyond Football and Facebook to vote for your video on the website.

A look into great live freestyle performances
Friday, 11 February 2011 22:26

As most things in freestyle, live performances too are looked at differently from one freestyler to another.  Each freestyle and fan has their own unique taste and preference.  In my own opinion, a perfect live performance (LP) is when you are capable of showing your best skills in a flawless and perfect flow.

The goal is to give the crowd a breathtaking view of freestyle by showing how much fun it can be, showing transitions sits, lowers, uppers, and in some cases even ground moves.  The goal is not to bore the crowd with ATWs only, but to show them a variety of different moves.  A perfect example of this is John Farnworth who is a great performer because he brings the old school tricks and transitions (Mr. Woo) and combines them with some new school moves.  To be specific, here is an example:

Another freestyle we can use as an example is Sean.  Sean is certainly a different kind of freestyler having essentially created his own path in freestyle performance.  His new form of freestyle includes more of a brake ball style, brake dance, block combos, and much more.  It can be fun for the audience but we as freestylers sometimes question whether his performances are football freestyle or something else.

Nonetheless, his style is well respected and showcases another side of the sport, which certainly isn't always about hard core combos.

Luki vs. Turlakov - Who is the real upper master?
Tuesday, 08 February 2011 00:04

Most would make the assumption that I would immediately crown Turlakov the "True Master of Uppers." Had this been a couple months ago, I would have capered to my bias feelings. Does this mean Luki is the "True Master of Upper?"  When Turlakov released his video "Hardcore Upper Tricks Pt. 2" it shocked the entire freestyle community off the shear ambidexterity this kid possessed.  If you look at the aberration of skill level from his previous "Hardcore Upper Tricks Pt. 1," part 1 doesn't seem so hardcore anymore.  The same can be said for Luki.  In his video "Jak Taka Ryba," the upper combo at 0:50 was mind blowing.  The fluent flow of Luki's combo seemed to make the ball float across his body.

It's easily stated that they are both highly skilled in upper, but I believe they are disciplined in two separate types of upper.  With that being said, Luki has been trained in "Body Trick Style" while Turlakov has been trained in "Roller-Coaster Style."  Let's go into debth and compare these two sensational freestylers.

G3rman responds with some hardore freestyle
Monday, 07 February 2011 23:14

Just as we were writing about the recent decline of hardcore freestyle, G3rman releases his new video - Winter Stuff - to put hardcore freestyle back into the spotlight.  The video has shocked many freestyle fans and has given new inspiration to those striving to be the next best in hardcore freestyle.  Winter Stuff includes all lowers and really shows how drastically G3rman has improved his skill in the last couple of months.  G3rman is now arguably one of the top hardcore freestylers.

Hardcore freestyle appears to be fading away
Wednesday, 02 February 2011 23:27
I thought I would write a little about what, in my opinion, is going to happen with freestyle in the future.  2010 was the year with the most advances in lower air combos, but I believe they have now peaked and will only go downhill from here on out. The buzz over creativity and different styles is now much higher than that for air combos.

Red Bull Street Style appears to be delayed until 2012
Wednesday, 02 February 2011 00:07

Dan, a Beyond Football forum admin, has been informed by a Red Bull Ireland representative that the headquarters of Red Bull has pulled the plug on the competition for 2011 due to the high costs that are associated with the event.  Individual countries will most likely run all the qualifiers in early 2012, then have the World Finals in late 2012.
