I think it's a personal question.
Not everybody have some damage when they have done patw.
But it's better to let people aswer who have done patw
So: come on
I have no pain on my knees

Like azun said. When i started practise it I got some pain in my knee and other places in the leg. I also felt the pain in my leg when I had done it too, but after some time it was ok to do it, if I just wormed up first.

I think It is more about the control and timing rather than speed of leg.

I would say it is more speed of the leg than control and timing. Sure timing and control are important as well, but even the freestyle with the best control and timing can't get patw. On the other hand, someone who has the fastest legs will sure get patw.

I think it's not that painful when you are warmed up well enough. if you go out and immediately start trying patw it's bad for sure. but after training atw, then latw, your muscles for the patw are warmed up enough i think

I think it's more about the timing!!! of course you need speed too, but you need a special  timing on patw! you can't do it like you do latw and then just put on another round, you need to do it different!! I think most of the tricks are about timing and it is really helpful if you have good speed.
