Natural Ability?
« on: Dec 29, 2008, 12:22: AM »
In another thread we got into a debate whether there is such thing as natural ability for freestylers

My arguement was that some people are naturally more skilled than others, and are able to learn faster... Others, however, disagree and say that a freestyler's ability only relies on their training...

Thoughts???

There's definitely natural ability. In any kind of activity some people can learn faster and look very comfortable and natural in it without as much practice as others. In freestyle it could be those people that have been fs'ing for a few months and have a really good style and decent amount of tricks and combos.
but they still need to practice to get better if they don't than the ones who do train hard can pass them.

yes exactly what i think... of course training is the only way to improve... but the extent of the improvement relies upon the natural ability =)

(aswel as how much and how you train obviously)

i still say that natural ability can only take u so far. like u can have a good concentration level and that will help ofcorse. u can be flexible and u that will aid ur freestyling. but idk if that cant be trained or theres gotta be a way 2 aquire those types of skills.
the only way u learn faster is if u concentrate harder, train smarter, right nutrients and all that crap, theres heaps of variables.
but id say were all pretty much on the same level other than those things above.

btw, wat do u mean by natural ability, just learn faster or is there other skills?

-Don't break combos.
-Don't use crossovers to save combos.
-If you're a new freestyler looking to improve, check the stickys in the help and advice section.

offcourse its different... but most can learn anything they put their mind to if they work hard enough for it...

if you are lazy, you wont learn anything, even whit natural ability... its not in our nature to kick the leg fast around a ball.

I think Azun said it pretty good. Practice is most important, talent (or learning things quicker) are a supplement. It's like that in almost everything.

I think its how you train more than how much you train,

Lets say your training tatw, if you do a high atw like me then your style could look worse than someone who has a low atw.

But of course someone is going to get better if you train alot more but its what you do while you are training and not just messing about with easy tricks.

Natural ability? Maybe, but your still need to train as much as someone who hasn't got "natural ability"

natural ability has alot to do with any sport. its just like when yall played football there were people who were fast runners and slow runners. not everybody is going to be able to run fast alot of that is natural. in freestyle i think that in many cases natural ability won't hold you back much, but it could lead to the type of freestyler you may become. for example dan magness doesn't look to be the quickest or most limber person in the world, but since he was serious about freestyle and practiced he became one of the world's best uppers freestylers. i'm sure there are many guys on here who could slaughter dan at lowers, but they are not overall as good of freestylers. than people like fx, palle, and others are naturally more limber and quick than others, so they picked up lowers tricks faster than other people. also the extremely hardcore tricks probably aren't possible for everybody to learn.

Sure, talent is not a bad thing to have,

If you look at top level footboll players they all have been training very hard during there life.. very often ppl say that 20 year old guys ar talents, but they have been playing football every day in 15 years so it's not sure they was a talent from the beggining

You can also have another sort of talent , in my eyes that is that you practise a lot. For me that's also a talent ...

It hangs togheter i think. Those who have talent plays alot cause they make progress and it's fun for them (because they've got talent). Quitters never win and winners never quit. You see? If you got talent, you're probably going to practice alot.
