sinterklaas is a lot more poplular in holland. we celebrate his birthday every year (december 5th) and he comes in holland halfway november with a big steamer and brings presents to the children that have behaved the last year ;) this is common already since the middle ages. santa is actually a copy of him. no offence to people that get presents with xmas etc but sinterklaas was the original one
