I'm agree whit Gustav, we just saw what you other didn't :P it hit on the side, but more down on the side of the foot, so it couldn't go up to the side, it would have have touched the ground first! maybe he clipped it, I'm not sure, but I can see he didn't land it!

But if you watch the slow mo but again and again you can see that he doesnt even get his foot under the ball. And it just doesnt look right anyway.

lol i am old and senile,but it looks to me,he hits it inward with his toe,if it hit the ground at all,it would have gone straight,but he just hit it back and across with his toe,he barely got it by a MM,but i dont see ground

It hit the ground, just that it hits his foot on the side and then ground, or the other way, that's why it go to the side!
