what a great man...one of the greatest martial artists since Musashi Miyamoto

i'd say one of the greatest martial artists of all time.

musashi definitely, amazing swordsman.  too bad videos never existed back then so we'd actually know how he fought lol.

i also love the legends of huo yuanjia and wong fei hung.  legendary martial artists.
musashi wasn't just a great swordsman though (even though he defeated other great swordsmen like Gan R'yu), but he was a consummate artist and a masterful writer. One of his bookd, the Book of Five Rings is a modern bestseller

yes of course, i remember reading about him a long time ago, and a lot of my other books mention that book as well.  but i was never completely fascinated in japanese history or jap martial arts legends...

it's cuz i'm korean, so what, big whoop... lol
fair enough I guess...haha

I wish we Jews had a martial arts legend

We just have Moses  :dontknow:

omg it's been such a long time.  as of today i'm officially back to martial arts training.  it felt real good.  i couldn't do anything hardcore tho, just some basic techniques and some bag work.

I did some more research:

the Muay Thai roundhouse kick and the karate/tkd roundhouse kick are basically different techniques

also the roundhouse kick was only introduced to shotokan karate in 1950  :saywhat:

yea.  muay thai one is much stronger but slower and easier to anticipate and counter.

and wow.... 1950?  lol

I think taht if you can't land a technique, it doesn't matter how much power you have.

thats why tkd/karate roundhouse > muay thai roundhouse

it's easier to land

no way man, that's a dumb thing to say.  it always depends on the situation.  i know both techniques very well and i use both techniques equally in different situations.

the greater the speed of the technique, and the less the telegraph of the wind up (the muay thai kick has more telegraph) then the greater the likelihood of connecting. Without a doubt, the Muay Thai kick is better once you connect with it, but having seen in in fights and videos, etc, it seems to be slightly easier to evade, because if you see it coming, you have a plit second longer to take a quick step backwards

on the other hand it's harder to dodge because of it's greater roundness

I phrased myself badly there...I think that if you DON'T land a kick, then it doesn't matter how much power you have

connecting on the kick is the first priority, and if there's a bit less power, I'd make that sacrifice

this is not to say that you can't connect on a muay thai roundhouse kick...it's just harder to do
