Would you be interested in writing up a history on soccer. You can put your own take on it as well. There are over 1000 searches a day for "history of soccer" on Google. I think it would be massive to have an article on it.

Would a "History of Soccer in X" article tagged as "History of Soccer" come up in a "History of Soccer" search?

It should as long as I use the right anchor text for the links. The use of the words in the article also matters. Use History of Soccer a bit more than History of Soccer in x. :thumbsup:
