He did it National level and I think he can do it club level. He's obviously going to attract more players over the summer so that should be good for Chelsea.

I can't see Ronaldinho in a Blue shirt...

As for the appointment, Phil is proven to be a great manager...but Avram Grant should never have been sacked. Look at what the guy did for Chelsea when Mourinho left a dispirited squad off the pace in the Premiership.

It will come back to haunt Roman and his meddlesome ways. Like Ballack getting played as a defensive player (due to his insistence on signing him). wTF? The guy is an attacking force and he gets totally misused.
I disagree, Grant was a loser. The men behind him where doing the work assistant managers Clark and Ten Cate. Plus they where working with the foundations Mourinho had previously built. It was Mourinho's team out there. Chelsea could have done well with out a coach last season.  Getting rid of Mourinho was a huge mistake, getting rid of Grant was a blessing. He played Essien in the defense while we had 3 available right backs. He started Malouda who was under preforming and missed out most of the season and Joe Cole whose been below par for a long time wtf. Soon as I saw the line up for Chelsea's most important game. I knew it would be a disaster. Good riddance.

I agree with melbourne on this one. He didn't win anything and it was Mourinho's team out there. And most importantly you could tell that the players were not fully behind him. You can't have that with so many star players. You need an experienced coach who will have the player's respect.

The only issue I have with Scolari is his lack of English. I know he'll have a translator and that will help, but his motivating will suffer. I don't see the players getting the same motivation through translation.

Excellent!! Gonna be fun watching him manage the team,Lets hope he can throw out the sucky long-ball system,Where they score 1 and sit back to defend.

Mourinho might have been a defense orientated manager. But 'long ball / scoring one goal than defending' was never one of Chelsea's main tactics. Mournho believed in a strong defense and no team can be successful with out building from the defense up. Long ball was indeed one Chelsea's tactics but its wasn't as prominent as people make it out to be. They mainly kept and passed the ball around and employ the tactic when needed. Its just that they did it so well people think it was the main tactic. There is nothing wrong with long ball if you can do it with good result.

I gotta disagree.

Carvalho recently spoke out about the harsh way in which Avram was treated and his dissapointment of his sacking. It's another case of Big Name manager gets in ahead of common sense and decency.

Avram didn't win anything? Look at where Mourinho left it at. Poor in the Prem and really playing quite badly with little belief.
for ANY manager to come in after such a great manager has been in charge and to do what Avram did was remarkable especially in the face of such opposition and lack of support from fans etc.
To say

they were deperately unlucky to lose the CL final. A Terry slip is all that cost them, they dominated Man United for a half and the whole of the 2nd period of injury time.

Phil will do well, but how well? I think Manure and Arsenal (depending on signings) will have better squad morale/players.

Maybe he'll attract some portuguese wingers.  Get rid of Malouda and let wright-philips move on.  Chelsea ruined his career...poor guy.  Same with Sidwell he needs to go.  We'll see what he does.  I thought Grant did alright.  There was that confrontation between Ballack and Drogba during the last manu game in the premier league that he didn't really do much to sort out.  But I couldn't complain.  He didn't do any worse than Mourinho.  Maybe Scolari will make the team's play more attractive

Phil already speaks and understands English, so it isn't really lacking. And top of what he already knows, he's got a few months until games begin and motiviation is needed. I'm sure his English will be fine.

He'll be OK but his English is nowhere near good. I've heard him speak in interview in which he tried to speak English and it was pretty damn bad. Very bad actually.
