Lance Armstrong Admits to Dopping
« on: Jan 16, 2013, 06:24: AM »
What's everyone's opinion of the guy?

He lied about it for years but finally admitted to it.

Do you still respect him?  He's done a lot of good raising money for cancer but cheating like this really does ruin someone's reputation and potential the entire reputation of the sport.

I don't like how he is being treated. I'm pretty sure all cyclists take doping. Just because he got caught / admitted it doesn't make him a worse person.

It's also ridiculous how UCI wanted to cancel his titles, just to pretend they think doping is a bad thing, but they know it's part of the sport. They should and most probably would be thankful for how he promoted their sport, but they can't say it because he has to be made a bad person now.

At first I was shocked by this news, but then I realized that, as mentioned above by redsforlife and Christoph, unless all riders take a lesser or greater extent dopping.
He helped a lot of people struggling with cancer, became the idol of thousands of people. He destroyed his reputation, but in a few years will come out that this sport is not 'clean' athletes.
I'm just disappointed that so late getting admitted for a long time and lied to the whole world.

Yeah, seems 75% of them dope.  There's a chance their cycling committee is involved in the cover up.  If that proves to be the case, the Olympics Committee will ban cycling.

They should.  This sport needs a new start.  Fucking cheats.

Interesting and sharp solution, but fully agree with you. At this moment it's a senseless competition players.
A lot of people practice sports, his life working on it to achieve success. The sport can't be a place for cheaters using illegal assistance.

Well said you two.  He's done plenty of good in raising money for cancer research, but he's been a cheat all his career.  Unbelievable.

ofc he has been a cheat and a scumbag and all that, and i agree with u that all cyclists in top cycling takes doping. But thats exactly why he can not fully be blaimed, cause when one cyclist/team starts using doping, all the others need to start too to hang on. For example the team US Postal/Discovery Channel Pro cycling Team, were winning everything at a time probably because of doping, the other teams needed to follow up, or they would lose everything..i think thats the way it has spread so much

Saying others did it doesnt really work here since he was the worst of them all. Other used because he did it and they had to keep up. If you read about the size of their doping operation its sickening. And Johan Bruyneel (team manager) still did it for years and years after. (Contador etc)

How do you know he was the biggest user? Is there any evidence to this? Maybe the actual biggest user just doesn't win the competitions. Maybe Lance was a genetically gifted athlete capable of being among the top, but needed to use to win. There are probably several less genetically gifted that would never be in the competition without using, so they use just to be there. The fact is we don't know. This is a typical witch hunt. We should just move on.
