It definitely has to do with the way he learned the tricks. He feels much more confident setting up the trick like this rather than juggling. This is an example though of someone more interested in producing the most hardcore combos than providing a good freestyle performance. It really ruins the flow putting the ball on the ground like that to do a trick. The tricks are really hard, so that makes up for it somewhat. I think it could be something really cool if he figured out a way to work it into a routine. Drop the ball in a way to do a quick groundmoves thing, than do it to do a hardcore combo. Obviously there is no correct answer to whether he is doing it wrong or an innovator of a new way to do combos. He can do it however he wants.
