You have to remember how it was when you first discovered freestyle. It was through commercial outlets. Most of us started after watching NIKE commercials or something like that where footballers were doing basic tricks. This inspired us to practice these tricks, and than we wanted more. We discovered the likes of Mr. Woo, Touzani, Billy Wingrove, etc. This made us decide to genuinely dedicate ourselves to practicing freestyle and joining the community. Once we joined the community we learned more and more about it and followed many different freestylers that are not all main stream.
I actually think there are not as many new mainstream outlets showing freestyle as much. NIKE commercials are showing less tricks and skills than before. Most of the freestyle community is more interested in pleasing the rest of the community than outsiders. Videos are much more hardcore nowadays than back than. People that know nothing about freestyle get bored with hardcore videos, because they don't know what's going on.
What we need are some people that can kind of create a grey area between the two worlds. Be commercially attractive to people outside the freestyle community, but also be skillful enough for the freestyle community to respect. Maybe someone like Andrew Henderson can do this. We just have to see.
