Now that i think about this, Ronaldo (the original king) was better then than Torres is now. he didnt sell for 50million. its all about the market and current times. as there was a first 1million pound player there will probably be a 100million player in the future. prob not worth it as most top clubs are in debt because of player wages but just because a team can spend they do.

Just read the quotes I posted above about how much money is made from their jersey sales.  The transfer fees are not even that unreasonable if you think about it.  Ronaldo's huge transfer fee was recouped in now time.
