Going by that "theory", JF is cocky too, since he's marketed as "the world freestyle champion". I just took JF as an example, but there are MANY others who do the same thing. Some put the truth in a much nicer package and some flat out make up stuff. Point being, it's just marketing, usually done by their agents and not by themselves, so it's not a reflection of their character.
