Lets be real this is no confederations cup. USA wouldn't even make it passed the group stage. The only reason they do make it to the world cup is because besides Mexico there is no real challenge in their confederation.
we have a very good chance at making it past the group stage. i don't think we'll come
remotely (huge emphasis on this. the knock-out stages are always open game, but we don't have near the quality to challenge the top 10 for four matches--this was shown even through the confed cup) close to challenging for the cup, but we have the quality to make the knock-out round, especially if we end up seeded.
we even came close in the disaster of 2006, and i think this team (especially with jermaine jones inserted into it) is a lot better than 2006 if we line up appropriately.
ETA: re: our confederation. mexico is very good. we're a fair bit better than them imo. however, azteca is a stronghold, as is everywhere else in concacaf. we can expose most concacaf teams at home (even if we are out-numbered in support), but playing away in concacaf is fucking lethal.
